re: Badgers QB Update

McEvoy was on the depth chart at QB under Spurrier at USCe his freshman year but had an off-the-field issue and transferred to Arizona Western CC where he played safety and wide-out.
Pretty highly touted coming out of a HS as a QB/WR - versatile athlete. He was definitely a contributor in our defensive backfield last year - Andersen recruited him specifically for QB, though.

Many Badger fans wanted to see McEvoy at wideout this year due to the graduation of UW's top four reception leaders, but the coaching staff seems pleased with the development of some of the younger WR's. That being said, GA seems to think a dual-threat makes the most sense considering the loss of Abbrederis (WR)and Pedersen(TE) in particular. Our O-line should be solid this year, but drops/mis-throws and LSU's pass-rushing ability screams breakdown QB scrambles to me.
Stave will almost certainly get a few series' against LSU. Wisconsin's identity will always be the power run game - McEvoy at QB will not signal a change in offensive scheme.

FWIW, Summer Practice reports seemed to give the edge to Stave in terms of throwing production. McEvoy has generally been less consistent with his arm, and his HS vids show a noticeable hitch in his delivery. There is a small possibility true freshman D.J. Gillins makes an appearance under center. He's shown the most potential of any of the QB's thru Summer camp and comes in as a highly rated recruit but obviously lacks experience and consistency as a game manager + he definitely needs to put on considerable weight to hold up as a starting QB at the D1 level.
Should be a good game - been anticipating this one for ages, seemingly.

Gopher, what does your fan base think about the deal?

Our fans are overwhelmingly positive about the Lambeau game - we had 40,000+ fans up there for a college hockey game a few years back. With Lambeau's renovations and the quality of the opponent, I wouldn't be surprised if this game will be the hottest ticket of the year in WI.

As far as the Houston game? More of a 'meh' simply because of the location of the game. Most Badgers would've been in favor of a game in New Orleans (or Baton Rouge), but we still are excited to play the Tigers.

Some are skeptical that LSU will opt out of the Lambeau game - the logical ones realize that LSU is the lone SEC program that isn't afraid to travel.

A lot of Badger fans have been wanting LSU on the schedule for awhile. Death Valley looks like an incredible venue (esp. those night games) and your fan base seems quite similar to ours in terms of having a "party-like" atmosphere at ballgames.

Our program seems to have taken a real nice approach to OOC scheduling (thanks Alvarez, playoff) and we realize we need to schedule these types of games in order to make a run at a MNC. Looking forward to our matchup(s)!

Meanwhile, we get more Kent State's, UAB's, Furman's, Towson's and Idaho's, along with the usual Louisiana 5A high school teams at Tiger Stadium.

Interesting you say this. For us, we lost a home game against a MAC-caliber school in favor of the neutral-site LSU matchup.

I would assume it would be the same case for LSU. What does your 2014 non-con schedule look like?
Forget UGA/FL; LSU/UW would be known as the World's Largest Outdoor Party - period!

(now, if only were these events in Madison, Baton Rouge...)
