re: QDMA Bayou Branch

Posted by dboudr5 on 9/19/12 at 9:16 am to
The event will give away 1 gun for every 15 people in attendance. So if there are 400 people there, that is 27 guns. Or if there are 600 people like we had at our Central LA Banquet, that is 40 guns, so it is pretty much the same quality of event. No other banquet from any other conservation organization has that many guns to give away at an event. Several of the members of the Bayou Branch attended our Central LA event in Alexandria last month. The Bayou Branch is BRAND NEW. They just formed about a month ago. This is their very first event. These guys are going FULL STEAM AHEAD!!! This is a great group of guys and very dedicated to the mission statement of QDMA. There event tomorrow night is going to be probably one of the largest first time events ever in the history of QDMA. They will definitely be bringing a lot of enthusiasm to the Houma/Thibodaux area about proper deer and habitat management, youth hunting and shooting activities, the new youth organization The Rack Pack, and the REACH program. I wish yall the best guys!!!! Good Luck! Wish I could make it.

QDMA Deer Scoring Event and Field Day

Posted by dboudr5 on 4/27/12 at 9:25 am
The Central Louisiana Branch of the Quality Deer Management Assocation (QDMA) will be hosting our annual Deer Scoring Event and Field Day on Saturday, June 2 at the Cottonport Bank Camp near Marksville, LA. The event will start at 9 AM and will last until about 1:00. Lunch and refreshments will be served.

People are encouraged to bring in their deer heads and racks to be scored by LA Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries deer biologists.

New this year will be several presentations by some of the nations top experts. Presentations will include:

- Rod Pinkston, owner of Jager Pro Hog control Systems (www.jagerpro.com). Rod will be discussing professional hog control techniques and will have traps and hog control equipment set up so that you can actually see how their state of the art equipment works.

- Rans Thomas, owner of Thomas Resources - Wildlife and Land Enhancement, Inc (and formerly head biologist for Tecomate) will be discussing property lay out and design and how to maximize your habitat to improve wildlife.

- Walter Cotton, professional trapper with USDA Wildlife Service, will be demonstrating effective coyote trapping techniques and how to imporve your coyote trapping efforts.

- Scott Durham, LDWF Deer Study Leader, Tony Vidrine, LDWF Regional Biologist, and other LDWF deer biologists will be on hand to measure any deer head or rack brought to the event. They will also be available to answer any questions you may have about deer management and biology.

This event is FREE and open to the public. It will be a great opportunity to see some of the biggest deer killed in LA and surrounding areas and also to learn from some of the best and brightest authorities on wildlife and habitat management.

For more information, contact Tammy Lemoine at 318-359-3003, Bob Stevens at 318-447-5015, or Darren Boudreaux at 225-573-2035. Also, see the attached flier for directions, maps, and other info.

Ahhh, that is the name of the LSU Research Station. I thought you were referring to one of our branch board members. My mistake.

There is no Bob Jones associated with QDMA in LA. But anyways...QDMA will teach you how to form a co-op with your neighbors, just like I did. I own 103, but we have over 3000 acres with everyone only shooting bucks 4.5 years and older.

I have 103 acres and the benefits have been tremendous. Habitat improvements, herd management, and predator control have resulted in healthier deer, more deer, bigger deer, and more importantly, better hunting experiences.

I would highly recommend joining QDMA. You will learn a lot of improving your habitat and managing your deer herd.

re: Ever bought a FEMA trailer?

Posted by dboudr5 on 2/26/12 at 5:25 pm to
I bought a 32' model from a friend and paid $2300. The formaldahyde deal was just a BS story dreamed up by lawyers. Your house has more in it than a FEMA trailer. Any FEMA trailer you find will have some issues. Mine had one soft spot on the floor. You need to check the floors and walls real good for soft spots. They aren't hard to repair, but its very common. The roof needs to be resealed every 6 months and most of them were never done so that is where your leaking water comes from. Reseal it as soon as you get it and I'd build a cover over it. We knocked out the wall between the living room and front bedroom and turned the bed 90 degrees and it really open the room up a bunch. Not hard to do and only took a couple of hours. We also tore out the couch and replaced it with a fouton that was more comfortable and gave another bed. You can also replace the water heater with a tankless model and that is a big improvement over the 10 gallon tank that comes in the trailer.
