Winchester SX4 Reviews?
Posted by Capt. Travis Lovell on 3/2/17 at 8:12 am
I'm looking to purchase a new shotgun to turkey hunt and duck hunt with. Anyone have the new SX4 by Winchester? Pros? Cons?

Sorry I'm late at replying. As far as redfish areas in or around Lake DeCade, you should be able to find fish along the banks of Lake DeCade, Jug Lake, Raccourci Bay and any marsh around there. I typically use a 1/2 oz. gold spoon, Bayou Chub Minnow rigged on a 1/4 oz. jig head, or any soft plastic rigged on a single bladed spinner. For those that use bait shrimp or cracked crabs, of course you can catch reds, drum, and sheepshead in some of the deeper holes in Bayou Decade, or Bayou Raccourci. The trout seem to be a little scattered right now, but there are still plenty of fish to catch. You just have to keep moving until you find them stacked up and catch all that you can while they're biting! Lots of decent reports coming off of the Shiney Hiney this week. If you plan on fishing Lake DeCade for specks, be prepared to fight the crowd as there's been boats on top of boats. To the question about Lake Boudreaux...I don't fish there often enough to pattern the fish in that area, but I'm sure you can find some areas holding fish right now! Good luck fishing!

Another way I like to cook them is to pan fry as mentioned above with a butter/cream crabmeat sauce on top.
I start by soaking the filets in milk for about 15-20 minutes. I'll then batter them in a seasoned 1/2 flour 1/2 bread crumb mixture or the Louisiana "New Orleans Style" fish fry. On a medium/high heat, melt 1/2 stick of butter with a little olive oil to keep butter from burning and pan fry on both sides until golden brown.
In a separate pan, melt a stick of butter and add lump crab meat. Season with salt, pepper, and let this cook while stirring until the crabmeat is cooked down (few minutes.) Then stir in heavy whipping cream until you reach the consistency desired making sure that the butter and cream don't separate. Pour over fried filets and ENJOY!

No problem at all. My favorite is the Bunker color. The Cock of the Walk color is great to. It's like the Chicken on the Chain color by other brands. The H&H's seem to last longer the the rest!

No reports from today as the rain kept everyone inside. Tomorrow looks like it will be a bit breezy and I'd expect very low water with the front pushing through. I actually canceled the charter I had scehduled! That's not to say you can't go fill the boat up, but it may consist of hanging out in some protected waters. Good luck if you make it out bud!

As mentioned above, do yourself a favor and try the Louisiana Fish Fry "New Orleans Style" fish fry. It's amazing! I useds Zatarain's for years and always found it to be really salty. Tried the Louisiana and will never go back. There's really no other seasoning needed on the fish as this a perfect mix. Try some of the presoaks mentioned above and enjoy!

The swim baits that you are referencing are produced by H&H Lures. They are called "The Usual Suspects" - 3" Swagger Tail Shads and can be purchased online at the link below or at Academy. The Bunker, LSU, Glow/Chartreuse colors are excellent. Hope this helps?

I noticed the marine forecast for Friday changed to Northeast winds at 15-20 knots. For those attempting to fish on Friday, I'd stay tucked into the marsh and protected canals.

I think you should be good fishing Monday or Tuesday considering the winds are not howling. I had two friends that caught their 50 trout in Lake DeCade this morning by 9:15am. Can't get much better than that!

To anyone who misunderstood my reasoning for registering on this site, it's wasn't to "pimp" my charter fishing business as I've never stated anything about it. With the amount of discussions I see on the OB about Dularge, I thought it would be helpful to some to merely offer help or advice to sportsmen who live 2 hours away from Dularge. I see nothing harmful in having a contact that knows exatly what the conditions are and who is willing to share that information to either help make a great trip, or avoid a wasted trip. I labeled this thread Bayou Dularge for those interested in the information.

I am currently fishing a 22' - Blazer Bay. I'll be upgrading to a 24' bay boat this spring. My normal pattern is to use the trolling motor until finding a concentration of fish. At that point I'll either set anchor or use a pole until those fish quit biting. Using the trolling motor definitely increases your chance of finding stacked up fish. Catch all you can when you find them and as they play out, troll until you find another concentration.

With the amount of fish being caught regardless of wind, rain, cold weather, or warmer weather I would think you should be able to find fish somewhere. The good thing about most of the winter fishing locations is that they are dead end or semi-protected canals or marsh which help fishing conditions and water clarity if the winds are elevated. As of now, the marine forecast for Friday is calling for North winds at 5-10 mph increasing to 15-20 mph Friday night thru Saturday. Early morning would probably be your best bet if you do decide to go considering the 80% rain on Thursday is gone. My best advice would be to just keep watching what the weather will be doing and make a safe call accordingly. Hope this helps! Let us know how you do if you decide to go!

Hey capt. Welcome! What's the reports further south in pelto and north off sale? Trying to get down thurs or Friday and definitely Monday or Tuesday next week. My trimming motor is broken if that matters
To be honest, I actually don't fish these areas much. Most fish we've caught in Dularge have been in the canal systems though.

Thanks for the welcomes guys! This year was the first year I used the "Shiney Hiney" and I must say that I was impressed with the bait. I had many trips that the SH outfished anything else we threw. All colors worked well. Swimbaits are usually a great bait to throw during the winter. I prefer the Bunker, Purple Haze, Blue Back, and Limetreuse colors. I fish the swimbaits working them off of the bottom. Speed varies on the water temps! You can't go wrong with the Bayou Chub Minnow by Stanley Jigs rigged on a 1/4 oz. jig head. LSU, Cajun Pepper, Glow/Chartreuse colors work well! Corks have worked a lot this year, but as it got colder slowed down some. I always pack a few to at least rule out if they want it under a cork or not.
As far as those free trips...somedays I look for a partner to scout with, so who knows...

I hunt several WMA's and NWR's in the state and I must say that there are a lot of deer to be harvested if you do your homework. Jackson Bienville WMA and Tensas NWR happen to be two of my favorites. Here's a picture of a buck I took in Tensas NWR during the lottery rifle hunt. I took this deer at 20 yards. Would have loved to have had my bow on this hunt!

Ha. I'll do my best at pointing my finger in the right direction. Speckled Trout are in their winter patterns and can easily be caught right now. Over the last few weeks, the trout fishing has been INSANE!
For anyone fishing out of the Falgout Canal Marina, you really don't have to go much further than Lake DeCade right now. The action there has been HOT! If the winds pick up and run you out of the lake, simply hit some of the dead end canals off of the lake and you should find fish!
To those that fish out of Jug's Launch, all of the normal winter hot spots have been producing fish. Any of the main waterways north of Sister Lake have been target areas. The key is current and water temperature. Any of the run outs into Bayou Sauveur and Bayou du Nord have been great if there's current. For anyone looking to battle the crowd, you can't ever go wrong with the Tank Battery Canal in North Bayou Sauveur.

Hey guys! I have been a guest on this site for quite sometime and decided to register as a member. I own and operate a charter fishing business out of Bayou Dularge and notice quite a bit of discussion on the forum about this area. As I'm sure you know, Bayou Dularge has grown into an extremely good fishing area and the fishing is absolutely amazing right now. I am here to give advice, and help out sportsmen on this site with information about the Bayou Dularge area. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have! Hope to chat with you guys!
