Word. I love Shep but you look at that pass at his feet that he made almost no reaction to - I don't think it is lack of effort but just a lack of receiver instincts or skill or vision or something.
James Wright would have either caught that ball or came damn close. Ditto for Beckham and probably Landry.
Shep will make some big plays this year by virtue of his playing time but I have to agree I think LSU has better pure receivers playing behind him.

I think we got a glimpse of why he hasn't played more with his poor attempt to block an Oregon blitzer which led to Lee getting hit pretty hard and underthrowing deep ball.

UT spotted us the first TD
Give me a break. JJ made a play there.

I see LSU is 88th in fewest penalties per game and 70th in fewest penalty yards per game (out of 120) but no breakdown on types of penalties.
question: where does LSU rank in false starts and...

illegal formations, illegal shifts, delay of games, etc.?
Is there a stat website that breaks down penalties into categories like this?
I would hazard to guess that LSU ranks near the bottom of these types of penalties, and has for at least the last three seasons.
I have been the biggest Les Miles defender and fan since he left Oklahoma State, but I can no longer defend what I am seeing.
The continuation of these kind of penalties (and the clock management issues) cannot be attributed to anything except his coaching, period.
The poor QB play is at least 50% on the individual player (Matt Flynn was not incompetent for example under Miles), but the utterly ridiculous number of offensive penalties the LSU has rung up under Miles is almost 100% on him IMO.
It has to stop or Miles has no one to blame but himself when he is fired.
I still love Miles as a man and a motivator but there is no excuse for the ongoing debacle that is the LSU offense.

As for the question of "is Miles or Crowton running this offense?"...
I can say DEFINITIVELY that from watching Miles' offenses at Oklahoma State (and I mean every down of every game for his 4 years there)...
That these LSU offenses do not REMOTELY resemble those OSU offenses.
Miles never ran a spread at OSU. He ran something very similar to what Harbaugh runs at Stanford. His offenses at OSU were sharp and productive. "Run it and throw it deep" was the theme. A lot of bunch formation stuff.
I'm not saying Miles does not have a heavy hand in the absolute fiasco that the LSU offense has become the last three years, I'm just saying that what we are seeing does not remotely resemble what he was doing at OSU during his entire time there.

The first play from schrimmage yesterday is why Lee is not the starting QB.
You throw out the threat of a running QB the instant Lee is inserted at QB.
I'm not saying that should decide the matter at all mind you, I'm just saying that is why.
Obviously Lee is a better passer, but I'm not sold on him overall.
I think LSU simply does not have an above-average SEC QB with either JJ or JL right now, period. JL is not going to save the LSU offense IMO.

Tiger "fans" who leave before game is decided, WTF?

LSU can't count on its home crowd to be there at full throated roar when the defense needs them the most? Unfreakingbullievable.
The booing is bad enough but the leaving early is worse.
Hey you crybabies if you want LSU to win the ultimate prize this year you are going to have to do your job and make maximum noise for four quarters.
Alabama will punish you quitters with a game winning TD drive if you don't stay and fight with your players to the bitter end.
The noise advantage noticeably weakened in the fourth quarter last night. The announcers pointed it out and the camera shots of lots of empty seats don't lie.
Yeah the passing game stinks but guess what, national titles have been won before on the strength of a great defense and a potent running game and marginal at best passing game.
YOU HAVE THAT. DO YOUR DAMN JOB AND SUPPORT FOR 4 QUARTERS. YOUR TEAM IS PLAYING HARD, CAN YOU NOT SEE THAT?
America now knows LSU has a bunch of crybaby fans will quit on their team, literally walk out of the stadium.
Here's an idea - vent your frustration at Miles/Crowton/JJ/whoever by yelling your fool heads off at the strategically correct times.
Would that be so hard?

That's what LSU is with JJ running the finesse shotgun spread. I just don't ever see him progressing smartly through the reads of 3-4 receivers.
I like the heck out of JJ and think he can lead LSU to the ultimate prize (especially with this defense), but that's just not his strength.
Yeah a team strength of LSU will always be a bevy of super-talented receivers. But we just don't have the type of throwing QB to take full advantage of that right now.
Miles needs to force Crowton to stick with the power I. Fat guy in a big fat coat.
Play action over-the-top. More effective option plays. Fullback blasts up the gut. Naked bootlegs and counter-pitches once the defense starts overreacting to the flow of the blocking on the play, which like Pavlov's dogs they always do. That is Les Miles ball control football.
4-5 yards and a cloud of dust makes a lot of fans moan, but unless you have a true throwing QB then spreading it out with 3-4 receivers and slinging the ball all over the yard makes no sense.
Deangelo Peterson should make a huge difference in this offense is he is ever 100%.

Good to see Ryan Baker back banging heads last night.
You can watch a lot of football and never see a team use more ball-carriers than LSU last night.
Ridley
Murphy
Shepard
Blue
Ware
Ford (FINALLY)
What a stable.
Looking forward to getting Deangelo Peterson back.

DAMN it was a sight for my sore old eyes to see LSU line up in the power I. Now that is Les Miles football!
I am so sick and tired of running plays out of the shotgun/spread attack. Those plays develop as quickly as cold molasses pouring out of a mason jar.
Give me one or two tight ends, a fullback and a tailback with a HEAD OF STEAM when he gets the ball! Play action passes over the damn top! Offensive line exploding off the ball!
shite if you want to run the option do it right and pump the ball up the gut with a dangerous fullback (Ware) a couple of times and THEN QB keep it/pitch.
Also the counter pitch play doesn't work worth a damn without fullback diving the opposite way (see last night with Murphy, that play fooled nobody).
By the way, watch for Ware to catch some balls in crucial situations from the FB position as the year goes on. At OSU Miles LOVED to throw the ball to his fullback. That play was WIDE open last night.
Does anyone know the status of Dominique Allen? Is he officially done or what? Tell you what we are missing out on some highlight show blow-up-your-stud-linebacker blocks from that boy. DAMN I was excited to see him play.
