CB McAlister Among Five Workouts

Posted by nickeatman at 12/17/2009 1:59 PM CST
The Cowboys took a closer look at five players here at Valley Ranch on Friday. While four of the names are relatively unknown commodities, one of them is three-time Pro Bowl cornerback.

The Cowboys worked out Chris McAlister, who was released by the Saints about a week ago. McAlister, a long-time Ravens standout, was picked up by New Orleans a month ago and played two games with Saints. McAlister had just four tackles with a forced fumble that he recovered in overtime against Washington two weeks ago.

McAlister has played 11 seasons in the league, including his first 10 with the Ravens, where he was a perennial All-Pro selection and three-time Pro Bowler (2003, 2004 and 2006).

While one club source said McAlister looked sharp in the workout, it doesn’t appear the Cowboys are ready to sign him just yet. It’s usually one of those situations where they want to know what they’re dealing with, if or when an opportunity arises for them to get a cornerback.

The other workout players include RB Herb Donaldson, defensive tackle Henry Smith, linebacker Leon Williams and offensive lineman Cliff Louis. Most of those players are eligible for the practice squad, where the Cowboys do have one open spot after running back Chauncey Washington signed with the Jets this week.

Great pickup given the type of offensive line we have...in other words he can make the first man miss, which is a necessity since he will likely be facing pressure immediately.

With or without Tebow, Vegas doesn't think we're going to be able to score against Florida. 20-10, 17-3 are common predictions.

I wouldn't anticipate the line moving much at all from it's present position regardless of who QB's Florida.

Running the ball to the short side of the field, time after time after time, is a problem.

Les addressed this in his news conference. I'm paraphrasing, but his explanation was that MState was stacking the wide side with their best personnel while leaving the short side with second tier people.

He was disappointed they didn't have better success against those formations...

So my question is, what exactly do you see on the field that you think the coaches should be spending more time on in practice?

Blocking. Defensive guys like Patrick Peterson block with better technique and fire then our receivers and tight ends do, not to mention the offensive line which never seems to get to the second level.

Almost a month old...he's over it and back on the team.
frick off Green Wave. You need a link to ESPN??? Who doesn't have that as a favorite?
The Bradfordless Sooners...maybe. They're beatable though.

Two things...G-tech has played 3 games in 12 days, they were gassed from the start. Second, Jacory never got his uniform dirty, having all day in the pocket will make a lot of Qb's look good.

Hat tip to their offense though, it's fun to watch.

To anyone who pines for Urban Meyer to come here: :doublebird:

Let's see how well he does when that baby rhino, masquerading as a QB, leaves the program.

The WR's must simply learn to hold their blocks.

It's too inviting of a play when the opponent gives our wide receivers 10-15 yard cushions.

If we can't execute that play then it will be much harder to throw the ball down field into heavy zone.
