re: NBA mvp race as of today

Okay... maybe we can throw him in the discussion and as a part of the race.

But he has a 0% shot of winning it. The Heat are 35-29, and that has always played a factor in voting.

If it didn't, Dirk and Nash wouldn't have won MVP's.

Lebron has it all but locked up. Everyone else is just fighting for 2nd-5th, which is irrelevant.

1. Lebron
2. Kobe
3. Dwight Howard

Wade and CP3 aren't even in the discussion. Regardless of whether you agree or not a team's success plays a role. I dunno the last time a player won an MVP award on a team with less than 50 wins but it's been a while. Wade is on a 45 win team and CP3's Hornets have underachieved by their lofty preseason standards.

If Wade did by some miracle win it this year then they should go back and give it to Kobe in the 2005-2006 season.

Let's just put it this way: the Wizards have more quality road wins this year than the Jazz.

Jazz's best road win of the year is Detroit, who barely hovers over .500, barely.

When they're not at home getting away with rugby defense and feasting on tired opponents coming off a back to back, they're just an average team with no interior defense that incessantly fouls.

It's true based on what? The records are similar but Houston has a superior margin of victory, better perimeter defenders, a better front line, and is 5-9 in games decided by 5 points or less whereas New Orleans is 9-5. Houston is better than their record, New Orleans is worse than their record.

As for how they'd do against the Lakers... Rockets 0-3 Hornets 1-3... yeahhh, neither stand much of a chance, but I'd give the Rockets a slightly better chance on account of the fact that they play defense, have a low post scorer, and have Battier/Artest to "contain" (not that they did it well tonight) Kobe.

As for how the Rockets and Hornets have done head to head... 1-1.

Yeah.... not seeing much conclusive evidence here that the Hornets have a better chance of making the WCF than the Rockets.
2 team conference

Houston is a cut above the 3-9 though.

As have the Cavs and Lakers.

Comparing CP3 to Magic is absolutely blasphemous.

CP3 has done nothing yet, nothing.

Rivers was the best QB in the NFL last year. Why in the world would you take Cutler over him?

lol
Favorite for #1 seed maybe.

But they haven't shown much this year against the top teams. 1-4 against Celtics/Lakers with Lebron shooting horribly in 4 of the games, and the Cavs getting dominated in the paint by both teams.

I agree that Houston is a cut below the Spurs and Lakers, but also a cut above those teams you listed on account of the fact that they actually have a good defense.

Maybe I overvalue defense and a scoring big too much, but history says it's conducive to winning championships... not that I'm saying the Rockets will.

Top 10 is a bit much. Top 7-8 should be more accurate.

Once you get into the 10-12 range you start dealing with mediocre teams like Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, Atlanta, etc. Wins over such teams aren't really that big a deal.

But by my count the Hornets are 7-13 against the top 8 teams in the league, a meager 35%. and in 15 of the games they've failed to reach 90 points.

So on top of the fact that they have an atrocious perimeter defense, they have trouble manufacturing offense v the good teams.

Of course this isn't surprising when TC is your center and Peja/Butler are your wings.

Again, there's only 3 good teams in the West: LA, SA, and Houston. The rest are soft teams that don't want to or don't know how to play DEFENSE.
Houston's remaining schedule is difficult so I wouldn't lock them in as a top 4 seed yet.

But they have been playing well lately, and actually play defense unlike 80% of the league.

It will be weird if they win a first round serious with T-Mac sidelined, and I'd feel sorry for T-Mac if it happened. He really deserves much better than the reputation given to him by league wide fans, although injuries caused him to be ordinary this year.

Hornets haven't been playing well lately, just a soft spot in the schedule. What good team did they beat during that 7 game win streak? 0 by my count.

Blazers aren't legit. Lakers just struggle at the Rose for whatever reason.

There's only 3 legit teams in the West: Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Houston.

The rest are soft garbage teams that don't play any defense.

So much is made about the depth of good teams in the West but there's only 3 good teams in the West, and 3 good teams in the East.
No they shouldn't, they just lost to a team they were supposed to lose to. Atlanta is a matchup problem due to their athleticism and JJ. Smith made West his bitch tonight.

Can't get mad at the crew for losing to a team they're supposed to lose to. get mad if they lose to the Wizards on Wednesday.

Whoever hits more jump shots will win this game. Both of these teams view the paint as the Berlin wall, and neither plays defense, and the Hawks are garbage without the transition game.
Yeahhh... you're overvaluing the tangible statistical aspects of basketball.

I'll take Deron's leadership, poise, and clutch factor over CP3's habits of being a soft flopper any day of the week.

Only 3 relevant teams in the West are Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Houston.
