the time has come. 12 conferences. 12 playoff spots. win you conference and you are in. top 4 "ranked teams" get a bye the 1st round. the champion needs to be settled on the field.

as far as conference pride, I'll be damned if I ever pull for auburn or florida. as an lsu fan I will never pull for saban or bama, I don't care who they play. well, I take that back, I ALWAYS, ALWAYS pull against the usc condoms. why should I have to pull for my conference when every year my team has recruiting wars with bama, auburn, florida and ole miss. no more, all the major conferences are the same class of players. the big-ten, big 12, pac 10, acc, big east and sec all deserve respect. sec fans need to be a little more humble, and sec haters need to let it go, right now sec is on top, but that will change, maybe this is the big 12s year to shine, they have the best qbs.

usc is probably the best program in the nation. but, buuut, lsu, florida, the sooners, texas, georgia and the buckeyes are not that far behind as far as talent goes. (bama is creeping up or may be already have arrived at the top. remember I said programs, teams that have benn doing it for years.

playoffs is the only solution. 12 teams, win your conference and you are in. no more crying, no more excuses. win it on the field. I know the weaker coferences might not belong, but this is america, the underdog needs their shot. who knows what will happen, as long as it happens on the field, between the lines, not in the polls, where some geek who has never stepped on the field gets a say on who the best is based on their "expert opinion."

not come on and rip me apart, but why have a team play a sport if they never have a chance to prove they are best. I know this country has lost its way, in alot of ways, I know we americans have trouble seeing eye to eye on countless subjects that do not belong in a sports blog. but the american way, what it means to be a free american means that we all deserve a chance to win. that includes kids from hawaii, boise and tulane. if you are a div I football player yo deserve a chance to prove that you are the best.

the popularity contest crap is demeaning to us all as fans, and americans for that matter.
