Troy's Band

Posted by TroyTrojan05 on 11/12/08 at 3:21 pm
Troy's bringing their entire band this weekend. If you've never heard The Sound of the South Marching Band, you're in for a real treat. They sound like nothing you've ever heard. Here's a preview:

Enjoy!

Here's my perspective. We won't be as good as we were last year. We have more and better talent, but at this point, we lack experience at skill positions. We have a Top 25 offensive line (phil steele) but could be neutralized by LSU's #1 ranked DL.

We played conservative at MTSU doing mostly screens and letting dujuan harris run because it was our qb, rb, and two wr's first starts. We'll probably open up more of the playbook this weekend and you will probably do the same. Also, we had 4 turnovers in that game, lost the time of possession battle by over 11 minutes and still beat them by 14.

I think the score ends up LSU, 41-17. Somewhere in that area. Troy fans will blast me, I'm just being a realist. LSU DOES have the #1 ranked defense in america, and they certainly looked like it on tv.

90% of the people in the stadium will give a shite less about how good the other teams band is. Actually I don't think many really care, or even know how to tell, how good LSU's band is.

It's the complete opposite here in Troy. If you go on the boards, they will all tell you how much they love the sound of the south. Our coach calls the band the "12th man."

Yes, we play dixie, but that's pregame, which of course, you won't be seing. We may not do halftime. I hope we do, but many of the big schools we play don't let us do halftime so they can play their entire show. It's kind of shitty, but it happens.

I've heard about you guys. I can't wait to hear it in person. I'll check youtube for some videos of your band.

Thanks everyone. Does anyone remember if we brought our entire band in 2004, or is this the first time the full band has came to Tiger Stadium? I wasn't in the band then.

Thanks for the props, 19. We're looking forward to that game too. We have a young QB, so I'm sure your CB's will give him hell. I hear they call you guys Cornerback U.

It may not have been at the end, my mistake, but we did have one called back. I'm not saying we got robbed, we probably did something like illegal formation or something. I was just pointing it out.

TigerBandAlumnus82, the full band will be coming to Baton Rouge. It's going to be exciting. We havent had a lot of competition either, even when we travel. MTSU has the best band I've seen in person. I don't know if they brought their band last year or not. JSU is usually pretty solid, though I've never seen them.

LSUBD6, those are all previous shows. This year we are playing Sing, Sang, Sung; Hernandos Hideaway, Fly Me To The Moon, and one other I'm not sure of. We march around 270. This year we should be around 325. Interest in the university and band program is at an all time high.

No male dancers. That's just nasty. Our AD scheduled both LSU and Ohio State this year. Yes, it's insane. I think it's good to play tough teams so we'll be ready for conference play. I know, you laugh, but people in the sunbelt actually like sunbelt football. The bad thing is that it could cause a lot of unnecessary injuries playing both NC Title teams.

I never said troy's band was better, just that most visiting bands don't sound like us, check out the link. I have heard very good things about you guys so I'm looking forward to hearing your band play.

The football game should be a good one, we'll be competitve for at least two quarters, which is more than most non-bcs teams can say.

That is true, we just don't have the money travel everywhere this year. Wish we could go though.

Our new QB is Jamie Hampton. He's going to be a lot better than Omar in the coming years. He'll be green right away, but has a lot of upside. Phil Steele has us possessing a top 25 O-Line, so that should give him a good oppertunity to learn the trade. I know you guys have some of the best lines in the nation though.

I'll be at the game with the band, in full force. Can't wait to see you guy's stadium. I went to Florida last year with band. That was insane. How would you say the two venues compare? Any thoughts on the game? I know the last time we played the game ended with a called back TD ending the game LSU, 24-20. Any similarities between the 2004 LSU Tigers and the 2008 LSU Tigers? I'll go ahead and say we won't be as good as we were in 2004. With all this App St talk, I thought I'd open up some talk about the Troy game whose teams are actually pretty comparable. We both run the spread and do a good job running it.

Here's an audio preview of what you'll hear at halftime. If you've never heard The Sound of the South, you're in for a real treat.
