AJ McCarron Drops TRUTH BOMBS

Posted by UAClassOf22 on 1/7/26 at 1:26 pm

This is a great interview, and AJ McCarron makes a lot of good points about Alabama this season, and the state of cfb in general.

AJ is becoming my favorite Alabama commentator. He's a straight shooter.
quote:

I don't think we really have a good idea of what he can do there just yet. You always need to give a guy 3 years to bring in his style of players and implement his system

I think the biggest issue his first 2 years is he has a 180 opposite offensive philosophy to Saban, and yet he's had to play with Saban guys on offense.
Only 2 years in and our top 4 receivers are guys he's brought in. That says a lot.
quote:

And, having your team physically & mentally prepared for the grind that is an SEC schedule.

To be fair, he had one of the toughest schedules in the nation this season, and came out of the regular season ranked #1 in the SEC standings.

I think he's obviously more of a "nice guy" but I think he has much thicker skin than people realize.
I think he can handle the external factors in the SEC, but at the end of the day, he needs to figure out how to win a ship in this crazy cfb landscape. I think all of the coaches are still trying to figure out the best method with roster management and NIL.
The NCAA can't do shite anymore. Kiffin skirting the rules and exploiting the system is what every coach should be doing right now.
quote:

Not built for life in the SEC.

Curious what you mean by this?
I'm curious what the outside perception is from SEC fans.
He made it to the SECCG and Playoff Quarterfinals in year 2.
But also had some embarrassing blowouts.

Do you think he'll continue to build on this year, or is this guy just not championship caliber?

I think myself and most Alabama fans want to see what the team looks like when we have more DeBoer recruits on offense. This past season he only had 1 recruiting class on the roster.
Usually you have to at least wait for a coach to get 2 recruiting classes in before you can judge.
Obviously Auburn paying that much is ridiculous, but you guys laughing at these schools paying big money for QBs when every team in the final 4 has a portal QB.

Maybe it's time Alabama starts getting all of their QBs from the portal too.

Okay the Saban guys that the locker room loves are gone. Can you please hit the portal for a QB?

We desperately need an elite QB in 2026 that can make this passing scheme work.

Maybe it's Mack or Keelon, but these coaches have to prepare for the possibility that neither of these guys pan out.
If you go around saying that this entire offense depends on the QB, and is QB-centric, then you need to ensure you have an elite QB every year. Lane Kiffin did it at Ole Miss. Why can't DeBoer?
Here's the truth:

The defense has been fine the last 2 years. We were ranked #1 in the SEC in scoring defense this year.
The defensive talent that Saban left behind was good.

The problem is offense. Saban had Julian Sayin ready to be the next man up, but he transferred to OSU leaving DeBoer with jack shite at QB.
We had nothing at WR. Our starting 3 WRs were all guys DeBoer brought in since he's been here - 2 transfers and a true freshman.
Our Olinemen that Saban left don't fit DeBoer's scheme. They're meant for smashmouth, playing in a phonebooth style offense.
Our only decent TE is also a guy DeBoer brought from Washington.

While we were all set on defensive talent, the offensive roster needed a complete rebuild from the bottom up.
The problem is that DeBoer hasn't hit the portal hard enough in looking for a better QB and better WRs
I think he'll be a contender every year, but winning it all takes a bit of luck these days, so who knows.
True. Bryce Young is a good QB. Just needed some players around him, and a change in culture
No. The Democrat party is a Satanic cult.

But I also wouldn't say that Christians need to be Republicans either, because most Republicans are terrible.

Not as funny as watching bama and Kalen Defour get absofrickinglutey destroyed by Indiana.

I disagree. I think it would be funnier - especially if he never won one at LSU and Ole Miss ends up being the best chance he ever had.

Every team in the SEC (maybe save Vandy) was doing it and was doing it for decades. Every single student who actually went to an SEC school knows this. Every. Single. One.

Exactly. but the amounts were FAR less. Maybe a blue chip recruit would get a Dodge Charger, and a bag man would deliver $40k to the family.

Nothing at all like it is now with millions flying around, and agents shopping the portal.

How Funny Would It Be

If Ole Miss wins it all, when Lane Kiffin basically left because he thought he wouldn't be able to win a natty there.
quote:

The Alabama job is not as glamorous as Alabama fans want to believe it is.

Exactly. Tradition and size of the fanbase doesn't mean shite anymore.

$ is all that matters now. If enough millions go into any G5 program, they could win the natty within a few years.

You were fine with it when Saban was paying and y'all were winning championships

"Saban was the only one in cfb giving out free cars to recruits. He was a shitty coach who only won because he gave out Dodge Chargers, and nobody else dared to ever pay college players except Saban.
It's the exact same thing as today when every player has an agent and QBs are getting paid millions per year. Now Alabama sucks because everyone can pay players - not just Saban."

Wow nothing gets by you. You're a fricking genius.

I'm trolling so fricking hard rn by having a legit opinion on college football, and posting it on a discussion forum.

I'm trolling so fricking hard by making posts in good faith and discussing football.

You're such a sleuth my man. You should work for the CIA

I'm Good on CFB.

I don't think we should pay these players shite.

If that means having a lousy team that loses every game, I'm okay with that.

Cfb has gotten so ridiculous I don't care anymore, and I don't want to see Alabama juicing their boosters and fans to try to scrap together enough millions to make a championship run.

frick it.

It feels like Grubb is 5 years too late, the all-out air attacks of the later 2010s are getting replaced by physical, complimentary football again in both college & the pros

Unfortunately, you may be right, but this seemed to work just a couple of years ago.
We'll see what happens when they get a QB with a rocket arm and some dominant WRs.

Our defense is doing just fine.
It's the offense that needs a total rebuild. DeBoer has a 180 complete opposite offensive philosophy from Saban.
