I could see it go either way. Ultimately, I want to make enough money to support my family and be financially stable. I’m achieving that now but life only gets more expensive. And who doesn’t want more money.

I could see myself making the jump but I know I need to be strategic about it. To your point, I feel like it’s impossible for people to make the jump out of IA when they are moving to another company. Normally see it happen internally.
I find the whole “AI will replace _____ argument” to be a bit of an exaggeration. Will it have impacts? Certainly. Some sales jobs could have been replace 2 decades ago but people still want people (for the most part). The initial cost of having a secure and intelligent enough AI system is steep and would take years upon years to develop.
I have a buddy who did a similar route. Do you find you are still compensated well (compared to audit)
That’s what I hear. I guess it’s the external movement to another company out of IA that is a challange
I wonder how often transitions like this happen. Are you a CPA?
Makes sense. I was always kind of under the assumption that I’d be attractive with the CIA and Big 4 experience. At this point in my career, most of my experience is SOX, governance/risk, and operational type audits.
Oh yeah lol. You sound like a sensitive little biotch
So is the general consensus here that I try to pursue the CPA? Seems like otherwise I’m severely limiting myself in terms of outside opportunities from IA/earning potential?
Interesting. I’ve always been told that this profession was sort of recession proof- but I see your reasoning.
It does include a bonus (only about 10%). What sort of roles do you think I should be looking for that pay that price in Louisiana
LOL. I am not your brother in law. My wife is a social worker-we need the money!
This is actually my biggest fear. But moving is not an option for us unfortunately due to having to take care of some family members.
It’s for a large financial institution.
Hey everyone,

This question is directed to the auditors/accountants of the OT.

Ive been pondering lately if ive pigeon holed myself into a limited and dead end career path by my choices. I graduated with an accounting degree in 2018 and ive spent the last 7 years in external audit/internal audit. I started out with a Big 4 company doing FS audits for 2 years and then I switched to another big 4 doing advisory/SOX work for 3 more before settling in at a large private company in Louisiana in their internal audit department. I recently got my CIA in order to advance and hopefully soon get another promotion. I haven’t pursued the CPA due to personal life stuff (wife, kids).

Anyone else out here in this profession and have any words of encouragement? The reason I ask is because I wouldn’t mind switching jobs again within another company but not sure what pay/advancement opportunities look like.

Edit: I am making around $100k in total comp right now but I’m looking to make more.

Thanks in advance.
