My son is quite the resourceful person! He actually started volunteering at his local NPS while in college.

He then was inspired to study American History and one of his military history professors encouraged him to pursue a graduate certificate in archival studies at LSU!

While going for the cert, he worked tirelessly to find a reference/ archival assistant position at a local genealogy center.

It’s not an easy path- he put in the hours to overcome the obstacles and is ready to take on the challenges at his current NPS site. For someone like my son - that will remain anonymous - as he enjoys working behind the scenes.

He’s now in Philadelphia - before his job starts - enjoying what the city has to offer like visiting the Ben Franklin museum!
I just wanted to share with you all positive news if that’s alright as a proud LSU alum!

I'm so proud of my son, who does have autism and is incredibly detail-oriented. He’s always had a passion for cataloging and organizing information, and after a lot of hard work and perseverance, he’s now an archivist for the National Park Service! His role focuses on preserving historical records, which is the perfect fit for his skills.

What makes it even more special is that he was hired under the Schedule A hiring authority, which allows individuals with disabilities to be hired more easily into federal positions. It’s been a long journey, but seeing him achieve his dream job is such an inspiring milestone! For any parents or individuals in similar situations, I hope this can give you hope that there’s a path forward in finding fulfilling careers, no matter the challenges.

I am so happy and proud of him - I am literally crying tears of joy that he is now a productive member of society! He is living proof of why it’s important to be a beacon of hope and light when it’s easy to engage in name calling or inflammatory trolling.
