Phil Jackson and Daryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins on black vs white ballers
Posted by Velocity80 on 7/13/24 at 8:03 pm
"The black game by itself is too chaotic and much too selfish…. White culture places more of a premium on winning, and less on self-indulgent preening and chest-beating…. In basketball and in civilian life, freedom without structure winds up being chaotic and destructive." - Darryl Dawkins
"White players are more often willing to run patterns and to work collectively. Because of the predominance of blacks in pro basketball, the sport is rapidly disintegrating into a one-on-one sport. There are only five or six NBA teams who play with more than a superficial degree of team unity," -Phil Jackson

Last night I cried after rewatching Caitlin’s 41 pt triple double in the elite 8.
I was thinking how she is so good she could probably doing this in the pros, and building the women’s game to elite levels, but her coach is so woke and hard headed it will never happen.
Caitlin,
You ravish me.

Angel is 8/30 FG in her last two games. Most of her shots look 5-10 feet in.
Crazy stat.

She is so good. They need to get 2-3 worker bees that can catch passes and make most of the short shots around the rim. Let Caitlin feed them. Basically what the coach did in Iowa.
Not only is she good but I’ve never seen anyone control a game like Caitlin has. She’s only a rookie too

I love Caitlin and she’s killin it tonight. Almost has a double double after two quarters. It kinda hit me tonight she’s the most talented wbb player of all time. She’s different

Hopefully Clark will help elevate the level of play in the WNBA over time.
I am not comparing the actual talent
Like when Bird and Magic came into the NBA, the casual fans became interested in the NBA.
Plus the other players in the NBA saw how popular Bird and Magic were and how that translated to more $$. The other players started to raise their level of play.
The problem is I've never cared about women's basketball until Caitlin's junior year at Iowa. I've followed her closely to the WNBA, and after two months of regularly watching the WNBA, I still only want to watch Caitlin play. Her game is just different.
Sabrina's maybe second most entertaining, followed by A'Ja.
I'm not sure the W has staying power for me post-Caitlin.

I thought Caitlin won best college athlete of the year, which has never before been won by a woman.

I only come to the More Sports board for Caitlin content. As a sports fan of almost 40 years, she's easily the most compelling athlete in America right now.

I care nothing for Angel.
I only care about C squared.

Everytime I read these threads I remember Caitlin almost had 41 pt triple doubles in the Final freaking Four against both LSU (elite 8) and undefeated South Carolina.

They realized most of the turnovers were dropped passes from her teammates.

Basketball is a beautiful sport and Caitlin brings out all its juicy goodness with her style of game. Today I read that she has generated more points than anyone else in the WNBA this year. That's a complete player, an absolute pistol of a woman.
And she's the most humble player in the league.

Through just five home games this year, the Fever already suprassed their home attendance numbers from last year. Insane.
I was at Gainbridge on Saturday, and there was an hourlong wait before, at halftime, and after the game to get into their team store and buy merch.
Caitlin mania is real.

Honest question. Is she dating a guy? Like is she straight?
This is him with CC’s mom. He was a D1 starter at Iowa and now works for the Pacers.

Her appeal? She makes shots from basically half court…regularly. While other women can barely make layups.
But she’s a better playmaker and floor general than she is a shooter. She plays fast and runs better than anyone.
But she’s also the most exciting shooter in the history of women’s basketball.
That’s Caitlin.

On top of that, despite her speaking out against it, she has been co-opted by the ultra conservative media as some alt-right political touchpoint, so she is grabbing that market of mostly middle-aged white dudes as well, which is why you see multiple Clark threads per day on here.
This creep is trying the rhetorical sleight of hand of diminishing “middle aged white dudes” to geriatric Pacific Islanders.
You fool no one.

OK, but middle aged white guys are the most accomplished and creative demographic in the history of the world.
Read Charles Murray’s “Human Accomplishment.”
If the demographic who invented everything you cherish is also devoted to supporting Caitlin Clark, then keep on keeping on.

I think Caitlin is super sexy—-Italian and British (fiery passion and brains and good manners) are good bloodlines.
We love CC. She is America.

A Theory of Caitlin Clark
Posted by Velocity80 on 7/4/24 at 9:39 pm
Someone on Reddit asked why Clark was so popular and got downvoted a thousand times.
On the same night this week Angel played in a black basketball town in front of 3,200. Caitlin played in front 20,000+, a Vegas record. The Aces, back to back champs, had audibly quieter cheers than the Fever, a terrible team.
Her fan devotion is insane.
Then it hit me: Yes, CC is the most dynamic wbb player today but she is also all things to everyone.
For lesbians, she is just enough angular to appeal to their inmost masculine desires. Look at Britney Griner’s fondling hug with her last Sunday.
For black ballers, like LeBron and MJ and Barkley, her game reminds them of the boys, and they have paid their respects.
For hot blooded straight conservative men, she is super sexy with her fiery love of basketball and midwestern nice humility. She doesn’t seem to want to undermine the patriarchy. She loves her daddy.
For liberal men she is a woman dominating headlines and raising all boats for black women.
For straight women, well, they are her biggest demographic.
For everyone else, she is her.
