More trivia...
My uncle was the navigator on the Spirit of LSU. It was shot down by flak on May 20, 1944, during a bombing mission over Lutzendorf, Germany. It subsequently crashed in Ronquieres, Belgium. 5 of the crew were captured, and 5, including my uncle, evaded capture.
I found this painting as part of my genealogy research and pointed it out to my cousins. They reached out to Glenn Gore and he sent each of them a framed copy of this painting.
