Honestly in this portal system I think you will see a new philosophy develop in some schools.

If you got most the pieces spend and if you don’t have then save money for another year

This year we are going to have a new starting QB that has essentially zero experience. Maybe we are “saving” money for the following year where we stand a much better statistical chance of making a deep run with an experienced starter at QB.
Portal really is a boon to some top paying teams on paper. I suspect however the average motivation of a 21 year old multimillionaire football player is on the lower side. Maybe some of them pan out but some will not.
Highschool recruits come in get paid something and mostly sit on the bench. In a year or two when they are ready for the big time they will hit the portal and leave. So they were paid and developed by one team and end up benefiting a different school for 1-2 years before leaving college.
Why would you want to be a RB for bama at this specific point in time? Currently the OL is going to be 6 TEs blocking for you.
CFB is currently moneyball where the teams reset on a yearly basis. With the system now you need to spend the available money on purely productive players for this season’s team without thought or concern for next season. Any guy that isn’t going to produce this year is wasting money and he will most likely end up in portal next year anyway.

Thats the largest transition of the current model. The old idea of the up and coming underclassmen getting ready and watching them grow is over. No one should waste any significant money on a freshman who isn’t likely to hit their stride until year 2 or later.

Bad news is what made CFB special was getting that one or two good classes and watching them grow up. You could predict if you would have a good year in a year or two based on how guys were developing or the other way as well. Soon nearly everyone will be a mercenary going to the highest bidder. Even the NFL will have more “continuity.”
8-4 next year should get him fired but it probably won’t.

Ty coming back would have given us best shot to win next year. I understand him not coming back but I hate it for team/fans. It’s rare for a 1st year starter to do great things over a long grueling season and Ty did much better with less help than most realize.
Leaked details of the “meeting”

Byrne: “Listen I went all in with you and I’m feeling exposed and more vulnerable than your QB right now!

Deboer: “We have the best guys on the team. They have great character and really keep things in perspective. I am so proud of all of them!”

Byrne: “What does that have to do with anything? You need to overhaul this abomination of a rose bowl or we are both about to be out of a job!”

Deboer: “ Ah I got a nice buyout and if my time is up I’ll just retire to the beach and enjoy that nice buyout you set up for me. You are the best Greg!
Deboer has zero reasons to worry. His contract is guaranteed for another 70+ million $$$ until sometime in the next decade. As long as he shows up and talks about the thin line between his team and the rest he will do very well for himself. The players will get paid. We have become Texas.

That’s good for business
Hmmm
Most ah shucks quotes in post game and half time interviews
We won 38-0
Today we have found a way to flip the script. Today felt like that game however in reverse unfortunately. Nothing lasts forever
Ty going to come out and play well Jan 1
I’m going to call it now whole team comes out fired up from all the hate and everything looks better.

Other than Ryan he is still going to be dropping everything

Tide wins and haters immediately say Indiana sucks

To the OP original point of the Richt comparison

If not for a once in a lifetime coach like Nick Saban to compete with, Richt would have won at least one national championship (2012) and probably more. Richt is only seen as bad because he was unfortunate enough to compete with a legend. If he was born 20 years sooner or later his legacy would have been different.

No true Alabama fan wants to see Ryan leave

I’m all for him staying but only if his “cut” is the same or less than the #3-4ish WR on the team.
Indiana hasn’t played but two teams with a pulse this year. Bama matches up better with Them than the other top seeds. Expect bama to win
Osu/uga/tech all win and cover
