haha, yeah Ill work on that. For the most part it just makes us laugh here in Columbia, probably because we do so much wrong, we are all making those faces too.

Congrats on the Win

We really liked the first half, but the Tiger D made great adjustments during the half. LSU was stout in the second half and deserved the win.

Also, most of the fans I spoke to were nice and seemed to enjoy Columbia despite the craziness of the fair being in town... with the exception of the one dude calling Columbia a dump. Whatever.

You guys have great fans, and a great team. Good luck the rest of the way!

re: Smelley coming off the bench

I am too lazy to compile stats from games he came in vs. games he started but I will say that lots of fans feel as though he plays better off the bench because of lowered expectations. He started at Ole Miss though, and that was a huge game for us to get back on track and they just beat Florida, and he had a career day on the road. So I think its a bad theory and he is just streaky no matter if starting or coming off the bench. sometimes he is lights out and sometimes he looks JV.

HBC has said Garcia will get every chance to go the distance and remain the starter. So that tells me Garcia will NOT be yanked after the first bad decision or INT. However, a handful of mistakes and with USC falling behind Smelley could definitely be called upon.

yeah but seriously... those guys are off their rockers. I really hate that board. I wish other teams would not find that site because I know everyone thinks they are a good representation of our fanbase. They are not.

depends on what board you go to . Cockytalk thinks we are going to chop you up and feed you as fertilizer to our field but that is the unrealistic group of fans most of us disagree with. on the rivals board and scout boards people are honestly talking more about tommy bowden getting fired and our huge new commit stephen gilmore. There is obviously lots of optimism because we think we have an even better D than Florida BUT the problem is our tendency to turn the ball over. Holding you guys to under 30 isnt the problem, its us scoring more than 14.

Add to that Garcia, our QB is getting his first career start this weekend. Most fans are more worried about what our team can do than what LSU can do TO us. If we play well on O and take care of the ball, our D should keep us in it.

Speaking for myself... I am thinking oh no, here come LSU. We dont exactly have a great track record against you guys. But here is to hoping!

GoOoOoOoO COCKS
pretty unfunny. The kid is from central Florida, not Mexico.

how about a sign offering him beer in exchange for an INT? Then you're on to something...
YES there are tons of great BBQ places. Let me warn you that Maurice's might freak you out if you are not used to SC BBQ. Because of the German influence dating back to settlement of the colonies we use a mustard based sauce which is unique considering NC and GA both used tomato based sauces or vinegar based sauces. Yellow BBQ freaks some people out but trust me... go try a pulled pork sandwich from Piggy Park and you might be converted. He sells the sauce by the bottle so you can bring some back.

signs are actually not allowed in WB. As a student I snuck in a few under my shirt. I shouldnt be telling you this so security throws your sign away when you approach the gate BUT even the opposing signs usually make me chuckle. I love college football.

so getting the sign in is the easy part. thinking of something witty that will get you on ESPN is the hard part.

also let me quickly add that we got an awesome commit today in Gilmore, Bowden got fired from our rival and everyone is giddy about seeing that program scramble, and a couple of Clemson commits have de-comitted and are now looking at us. So add that to the brew of a highly touted QB getting his first start and you guys losing and some fans are losing all rational thoughts.

as cowherd always says... they are fans. short for fanatics. unreasonable and crazy. I am just praying that despite this past week being a great one for our university its only the fans getting crazy and our players still have their heads on straight.

If you guys are checking Cockytalk first let me say that finding a reasonable fan on that site is like finding a needle in a haystack.

I got banned from that site because I disagreed with a group of fans that thought the Boise St blue turf was so cool and they 'figured' they painted the grass. There was a 2 page thread on painting our field alternating garnet and black, or all black. painting. PAINTING.

so when I, a reasonable person, told them that its turf, not paint and that black paint would turn our jerseys into and the field would be hotter than hell I got banned. That is just a small microcosm of the tpe of fan on cockytalk. really hate all of those guys.

On talk radio here in town people are optimistic but no one is calling in with blowout predictions. Everyone is excited to see what our fresh QB can do with his first start (which worries me!) and we are also concerned about TO margin. We really need to win that battle.

The real reason for the optimism is that we think our D is better than Florida's D but most fans I have spoken to is super concerned about our O. We think we can hold you guys to around 20 points or so, but can we score more? that remains to be seen. I think those idiots over at Cockytalk fail to realize that while we played better than the score shows in KY, we needed way too many 3rd and long conversions to keep drives alive and our running game was non-existent. We cant throw all night, so we have lots to fix before you Tigers get into town Saturday night.

So anyway, while most of us are optimistic, a blowout on either side is probably not happening. If its as close as I think its going to be and we are having trouble moving the football, we might start giving up INTs and that could be our demise. we'll see, should be a great game!
As far as motor homes, there are fields on assembly street across from the stadium and fair grounds that are usually for motorhome tailgating. however, with the fair in town I think those are being used up by the carnies' motorhomes and equipment used for transporting the rides and such.

In short, I cannot help you. I have no idea where to go on fair week b/c any other weekend and there is plenty of space.

I will say that in the past, many of the more casualy tailgaters forgo tailgating on fair week. Its a huge hassle. The guys with the purchased spaces right next to the stadium or with established setups in local business parking lots will still be in full effect though.

Get there early and look around. I know that is common sense but its really all I can tell you. Good luck

yes that is possible, although it wouldnt be easy. I have gone to clemson games at 3 and been home for dinner but i know my way around both campuses.

I am not a clemson fan of course, but I have to say they have a decent stadium atmosphere and the campus is beautiful. also, with bowden gone and willy korn getting the start I am sure it will be a sell out with those taters screaming loud.

Clemson is actually far less then 2 hours away from Columbia. maybe with gameday traffic it could be 2.5 hours but I have made it there in 1.5 hours.

we? are you a gamecock?

re: South Carolina - National Rankings

Our Defense numbers are always skewed because we dont play our tougher opponents until late in the season with the exception of Georgia and they never play well against us.

I think we have a shot at LSU but if you're a Tiger fan I wouldnt be too worried about our D stats. Thay are really good but I think with two struggling offenses its really going to be about turnover margin. We are terrible at TO margin, with the exception of the Ole Miss game.

If you consider a missed FG a TO, we had 8 against KY with INT, fumbles, and missed FGs. If the gamecocks can beat LSU we have to take care of the ball.

re: South Carolina's health

We do have one significant injury that no one is talking about. 4 missed FGs from our All-American candidate kicker Ryan Succop.

Everyone, including himself, said it was not that abdominal strain that caused the missed in KY. But he has been nearly automatic from 50 yards in for 2 full seasons. Then he misses 4 in KY with two being chip shots. Definitely a concern for us.
