QUOTE: I’m looking into LSUS online MBA program. I’m also looking into Louisiana Lafayette’s program

I am a transfer student from the ULL MBA program, and I’m glad I switched. The ULL program is a good program, but the online accelerated edition is fairly new, maybe 3 years, and they are still working out the kinks. Cost-wise it is comparable to LSUS but will more than likely take longer to complete. When I was attending ULL, the required completed hours were anywhere from 33 to 39 (that may have since changed), not including foundation classes. Foundation classes at ULL are mandatory for all non-business undergrads. I do not have a business undergrad and entered the LSUS MBA lacking two of the foundation classes. But since they are not mandatory at LSUS, I did not take them and I had no issues passing the core class.

I found the workload at ULL to be a tad overwhelming. The material itself was not difficult, but the amount of work assigned in a 7 wk. period was massive. I think ULL wants their program to be challenging which ultimately translates to a heavy workload – most classes were no less than 20 hrs a week of work, with the average being 25-30 hrs. Another negative is that ULL does not offer any course flexibility. There are no electives to choose from at ULL - you basically take the courses on the program sheet, in their respective order, with little deviation and no choices.

Another thing to consider is that ULL only has 1 summer session – LSUS has 2. ULL also uses Examity as their proctoring service, which is not included in the cost of tuition. If I remember correctly, tests are an additional $15-20 per hour and $7.50 for each additional half-hour... average test is 1 ½ hrs.

SIDENOTE: I completed 5 classes at ULL before switching, but LSUS only accepted 2 – they will only accept 6 transfer hours from another school and do not accept foundation classes, which means that I will have to repeat 1 class because my credits exceeded the 6 hrs. and the foundation rule, but I believe the switch was worth it.…something to consider if you decide to start somewhere else then transfer.

Hope this helps! Best of luck!

I’m not sure that Kungu is still teaching at LSUS. If he is, his class was decent. LOTS of writing and the academic coaches were tough graders (follow rubric very carefully), but overall the material was interesting and Kungu seemed like a nice guy (via email). He posted assignments to Moodle and graded them - not much interaction other than that. No test that I remember.

**This was for 701, not sure of the layout for 710.

Proctor U has been a nightmare for me as well!! I’ve had problems with EVERY test session (I have 2 a week). 7 out of 10 sessions have had disconnect issues – three tests submitted before I even finished answering and at least four more temporarily disconnected, during the exam, which left me with only a few minutes left to finish once the proctor recovered the exam. The professor has been very gracious in letting me re-take the ones that were submitted unfinished, but I am 100% certain that Proctor U is responsible for my disappointing test grades. I find myself making careless mistakes because I am rushing through in fear that I will be disconnected. Thankfully I am able to maintain a decent grade with other assignments.

I also don’t like the idea of strangers rummaging through my computer, and having access to my personal files.

I had similar problems with Proctor U. First, the verification process is exhausting! I made it through the pre-test, which took about 30 mins, but there were no issues. I had two tests to take - On the first test, I got disconnected multiple times before I had a chance to finish, which was submitted as final with only half of the questions answered. On the second test, I was told my system requirements were invalid and I would not be allowed to take the test! Very frustrating!! Bring back Proctorio!

I transferred from another MBA program that used "Examity" and it was a similar situation. You had to schedule test appointments and someone stared at you the entire test - it was nerve-racking!

ECON705...Fawaz is very engaged! Weekly zoom sessions, which are extremely helpful! Makes himself readily available via cell phone (he will walk you through a problem over the phone), email or forum post for any questions or problems. Weekly assignments/quizzes (5 chances to take each) and 1 weekly closed book exam. no true midterm or final. Test are not terrible - part concept, part formula. The material feels overwhelming at times, but don't give up, he will help you succeed.

Consider Kendall for FIN701. She does not do zoom sessions (or didn't when I took her) but she is engaged and very helpful. She provides a lot of feedback, guidance, and resources to help you understand the material. There is a weekly discussion/reply and a weekly test; sorry, I don't remember if there was a true mid-term/final. You are allowed to use a cheat sheet with formulas on tests, but you definitely need to know the concept behind the formulas too. She curves test grades, and I think drops the lowest. Workload is not horrible.

I normally take only 1 class per semester, but after taking these 2 back to back, I feel like I could have taken together. The workload wasn't overwhelming for either class, but FIN is writing/research heavy due to discussion topics/replies.

I am taking ISDS705 with Gibbs this Fall AP1. Heard good things. Also heard good things about Ambrosio for Acct 701. Would also like feedback.

Yes, no worries kikicub -I know all experiences are different. I agree with Rybo44 -he very well may be the best of what is available for this course.

I feel like the more effort I put in the more I get dinged - I may be overthinking the whole thing. Thanks for the pointers!

Hi undkeith

I would recommend Kendall for FIN701. She does not do zoom sessions (or didn't when I took her) but she is engaged and very helpful. Sorry, I don't have any info on MADM760 or McLaughlin.

I agree!! I purposely scheduled Kungu because of the rave reviews, but so far I'm not impressed! I would love to know what criteria Turnitin uses to grade papers? What is the point of researching and citing if Turnitin is going to dock you for using them?

I don't necessarily mind the load of the writing required, but a little guidance on test prep would be extremely helpful!

I would have to disagree with the post that stated Kungu's class was only about 3 hrs worth of worK - more like 15+ hrs on my end, with all of the reading and researching!

Best of luck - 5 wks left! :wah:

Consider FIN with Kendall - she's an excellent professor. There is a weekly discussion on a provided topic that requires a reply to other students, a couple of tests and some busy work but nothing over the top.

ECON with Fawaz is a must - he is also an excellent professor. Fawaz uses Zoom Sessions to assist his students with any questions or problems - very helpful!!

They both want their students to succeed and are very present professors.
