How often to you replace the belt on your mower ?

Do they stretch out after a period of time or do you just look for wear spots?
I bought a new mower belt replacement for my john deere la145 from Hexautoparts,but if it's not necessary yet I'll hold on to it.
I have about 2 year on the john deere oem belts.
