What ever happened to Joe Labruzzo?
Posted by Frog Milhouse on 11/17/16 at 5:47 pm
The other message board is locked, so since I am from Lockport,LA, knew Joe personally, I'll give you the scoop.
Joe was my childhood hero. I went to every Lockport High School game to watch Joe play. I wanted to be a running back like Joe.
Joe was from LaRose, but got into a little trouble. Mayor Nolan Toups took custody of him, but Joe lived with the Head Coach, Dudley Hillman, whose son Mike also played for LSU at QB.
When Joe graduated from LSU, he got drafted by the Oakland Raiders. They wanted him to return kick offs and punts. Joe said he was a running back. Oakland insisted, Joe came home. He got a job working for Texaco.
Joe ended up marrying Mayor Toups daughter. He has two girls, no sons playing baseball or football. He did not fall out of a high rise in Metairie. But, he did commit suicide. Doesn't matter how he did it.
Joe divorced his wife, or vise - versa, got into drugs, but he laid low. Very nice guy. Too many guys walking into bar rooms looking for trouble with Joe. I guess they wanted to see if he really was that bad. Yes, he was! I remember a few.
And no, Joe was not the guy that called the Ideal Restaurant in Lockport and ordered 15 Roast Beef Po -Boys to go under the name of Ralph Hargis. It was his brother Frank. Poor Mr. Ralph. He went through the rest of his life being called Roast Beef.
