re: Alex Bregman and the Houston Astros

Yup, I would push to develop at 3rd (for Houston's sake), I just don't know if that's best for Bregs. I think he could be a jam up 2nd baseman on most teams in a few years. What really hurts him is that Correa is actually a few months younger than him and Altuve is not very old. Would be nice if one of them were older and he could be the potential replacement. Mainly meaning Altuve, because I don't think Bregamn is an everyday MLB SS.

To clarify my point, Bregman will have to be really really good to unseat Correa, by really good, I mean really good defensively and a productive enough bat for this move to make sense. (me saying as good as Jeter, was to paint a picture back to a time when the Yankees had this issue).

Dude Jeter had sick range early in his career, and a big arm. I heard a comment yesterday about these metrics you speak of, and they also classify Correa as a below average fielder. I don't know much about the metric, but I know enough about baseball to know these guys are not below average, they are smooth, have (had) above average arms, make the spectacular plays, make the easy plays. Jeter is an all-time great. We are talking about Jeter and A-rod, the only player right now with the potential to play SS with the same ability on the Houston Astros roster, is CC. Until Bregman shows me he can make the adjustment from college to the bigs, he will never be in the conversation to replace Correa. I understand you want power on the corners and all of those things, but a team will not take a great defender and replace him with a lesser, just to get someone on the field. You want to be strongest defensively up the middle. Correa will be great! In some peoples eyes, he already is!

I agree 100%, but if you go back to my OP, it's in reference the a younger version of Jeter at the time A-Rod came over to NY.
And at the same time Jeter was getting older, A-rod was getting older as well. Don't think Jeter was the greatest SS ever (give me Ozzie Smith on that).

I'm not a Jeter fan, but I wouldn't say a career .976 in the bigs is below average, to go with 5 gold gloves. There are also other things Jeter brought to the table that metrics don't measure (as does Bregman). Bregman was a good college shortstop, his Freshman year he sat back on balls and fielded at a .939, there is a reason he charged 85% of balls his Junior year. It's due to his "weaker not weak" arm and how he feels comfortable playing the position, and you have to be able to sit back on a balls in the show, he has to change his style to be consistent and I'm not sure if his arm will allow him to be able to make that change. I can only think of that being the reason he was at a .95 last year with a very small sample size. So I think 2nd base, but not for Houston and no way he unseats CC anytime soon. I'm definitely not bashing Bregman, I just don't think his style translates to a MLB SS, but he's definitely a potential All-Star at 2B. Just my opinion. :geauxtigers:

I agree, Correa showed signs of a premiere SS last year. A lot of people make the "A-rod moved to 3rd comparison", but only because he was on the same team as Jeter and it was at the back end of A-rod's career. Unless Bregman is a Jeter caliber defender I don't see Correa ever moving and if so 8 years down the road, which would be too long of a wait for Bregs. I look for him to be traded while his stock is high. I look for Houston to try 3B prospects Colin Moran and Matt Duffy at third. Bregman as well unless he gets traded.

I agree, rim protection is a huge part of the game today and LSU didn't have it this year. Our ability to guard the 3 point line would have been so much better. You can be more aggressive and gamble more knowing you have someone like that behind you. It's what they had with Shaq, Stro, Tyrus and Mickey, and one reason those teams had success. I think Mickey would have been more valuable than Martin this year for this team for that reason alone!

I agree, one of my favorite Tigers from the CPM era. Scivicque will be a valuable piece of the Detroit Tigers organization in 1-2 years. Look for him in 2018.

That was in regards to Romero, meaning he won't be as under the radar as Scivicque was considering he (Romero) came from Eunice.

Has a long ways to go to catch Scivicque:
Bench Finalist
All-SEC
All-American
4th round draft pick
But definitely has the potential, although I don't think he will be under the radar as much as Sciv considering he came from "E". Stellar ball players are produced in Eunice year in and year out.

4 guys from that Syracuse teams averaged 11 points or more. They had a PG in McNamara that averaged over 4 assists per game to go along with 13 points per contest, as well as a big man that could protect the rim with over 100 blocks. LSU is a legit PG and a rim protector (Jordan Mickey) from being a contender.
