How is it rationalization when I'm stating facts omitted by op?

Family is a far cry from high school buddies. Apples and oranges.

There is no sacred bond because I am no longer friends with this person, though I've tried keeping in touch he showed no interest in continuing any sort of relationship because he never answered and is obviously no friend of mine even though he once was

I have a ton of respect for her because I've known her a very long time obviously but that's maybe a bit strong

I am the friend referenced in the OP and what he failed to clarify is that I haven't spoken to this guy in at least 5 years (not for lack of trying), we were high school friends then grew apart after I moved out from living with them. Also he is seeing someone else currently.

What's the statute of limitations? Even though I have no connection to him currently whatsoever, I can't pursue this woman because we were friends 8 years ago? Maybe my moral compass is shot but I don't see an issue with this

Not since we dropped him off, no, we've been doing nothing but trying to get in touch with him since then, and his group of friends (a few of whom I'm pretty sure post here)

Yeah I picked up all of our bags. I tried to get in touch with him before I went to get them but was unsuccessful, I thought he was just still sleeping or something and haven't talked to him since.
