I try to watch all the LSU games, but I don't remember this play with TH. When I read the subject line I instantly thought of Reggie Fish at Arkansas. Is this a case of misremembering?

Who's to say which pronunciation of the word is correct?
Are you trying to imply that he somehow grew up in America without learning how to pronounce the 50 states? The Arkansas General Assembly is who stated the correct way to pronounce the state name.
Arkansas is the 25th state, and preceded Kansas (#34) by 25 years. They got it wrong...it's pronounced "Kansaw". :booboo:

You spend a significant amount of time on this board protesting an obsession with LSU. How much time do you spend with your major rival, Texas?
Two part answer:
1. LSU is my second favorite team! That probably will come as a surprise to most. LSU Medical saved my son's life when he was 2.5 years old. The Purple & Gold means a lot to my family.
2. I will NEVER visit a Texas Longhorn board. Trust me, they KNOW we do not like them! I would rather slam my pec__r in a sliding glass door.
** You know, it would be fun to have that kind of rivalry feeling each year like we had with Texas. Sadly, we just haven't found an SEC team to take their place.

I think "Geaux Tigers" is awesome. I was just using it to show the irony of mocking our shared French heritage on one hand, and then cheering on the Tigers with the French inspired "geaux".

Arky fans really hate LSU, for some unknown reason.
Maybe it's your incessant need to make yourself feel superior by having this "Arkansas isn't our rival" conversation all of the time. Especially, when you constantly claim that Arkansas looks at LSU like a rival, and that LSU is the Razorbacks' Super Bowl. No matter how many times, or evidence presented, you are told otherwise by Arkansas fans.
Arkansas-Texas Rivalry
--------------------
Quote: Razorbacks senior right tackle Brey Cook, from Springdale, Arkansas, left little doubt about his thoughts about facing Texas.
"I never dreamed of the NFL growing up," Cook tweeted. "I dreamt of playing Texas. In Texas. As a Razorback."
--------------------
I've realized that LSU does not have a rival, but they desperately desire a rival. If you had a rival, you would KNOW it. Ask Bama. Ask Ohio State. Ask Miami. Ask USC.
Alabama is a much more impressive program than LSU, historically and presently, and they are not Arkansas' UNIVERSAL rival. Still Texas. For next year's football season, if Razorback fans had to choose a victory over either Alabama or LSU, but not both, the VAST majority would pick Alabama. That SERIOUSLY means you are NOT our rival.
Now, maybe some dislike stems from your Yankee coach. He moves to a state with a rich French heritage, and then like an uneducated fool mocks the same French heritage by mispronouncing Arkansas as Ar-Kansas. This from someone who is representing an institution of higher learning. Even more pathetic is tricking SOME of the less educated LSU fans to do the same...ironically while holding a "Geaux Tigers" sign. :geauxtigers:
Disclaimer: I'm glad Les Miles is the LSU coach, and I want him to stay around for many years to come. I'm a realist, and I realize that Louisiana is a hot bed for talent. Each year Arkansas produces very small numbers of Division 1 talent. With the talent that LSU receives, the Tigers should be competing for National Championships every year. Coach Miles is Arkansas' best weapon for potential victory. <<< Just being honest.

Not this topic again. I guess the horse is dead, but y'all aren't through beating it yet.
Arkansas' rival is TEXAS! Not LSU or any other SEC team.
Are we glad we beat you this year? Yes, because the other option just isn't satisfying. However, we are happy when we beat Ole Miss or any other team...just like you are happy when LSU wins.
Were we excited to take the silly 'Boot' home? Yes. But, if you are true to yourself you will admit that the
victory had significant meaning for the 18-22 year olds that finally won an SEC game after 17 tries. This year the 'Boot' was a symbol of getting that monkey off our backs. It had less to do with LSU the opponent, and more to do with the overdue feeling of winning. Especially after being so close, so many times.
If you're an LSU fan, and you have friends who are Razorback fans, don't be surprised that they take extra happiness in having "bragging" rights for a year. I'm in the military and was stationed in LA for 16 years. I'm sure some of my LSU friends think that the Tigers are the biggest game of the year for Arkansas. I know I feel that Arkansas is VERY important to them...because they want the "bragging" rights when we get together.
In the end, LSU is not the UNIVERSAL rival of the Arkansas Razorbacks. It is still Texas. Heck, on the Woopig website, even the "Official don't really care that much about Texas" thread turned into a rival hate thread by the 4th post. That thread was supposed to be the counter to the Official Hate Texas thread...didn't work.

I know, right? I guess some people are too thick headed to understand the most simple. And it wasn't so much arguing a point as it was stating a fact. I hate to see people being led astray, and I felt compelled to spend the time to break it down Sesame Street style.

quote:Do you think some throw away comment, in 1992, from an alumni chapter head establishes a rival for any major university? At least I gave a quote from the Athletic Director. And even in 2008, prior to us playing Texas, he stated they were the only rival for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
I wish I could find the article that quoted the head of your alumni chapter in Shreveport...
For fun go to Hogville.net and under "Top Stories", click on the video "Razorback Nation Breaks Down 30-0 Shutout vs Ole Miss". It is a 10:00 minute video, so after it buffers drag the slider until there is only 1:10 remaining at the end. This again answers the topic of this thread. And once again, it ain't LSU. :banghead:

bamabenny: LSU is a fairly big game the past few years, but that hardly makes it a rivalry.
This is a sad commentary that LSU fans are "begging" to be someone's rival. They "justify" being a rival by speaking on behalf of another football program. Even more pathetic is that they ignore the overwhelming proof from fans of opposing teams stating that they do not view LSU as a universal rival. Why can't they just accept being a big game?
LSU Rival? Maybe it is Tulane.

I think Arkansas will be a bigger game when and if they get on top of SEC but there's no doubt we are bigger game to them.
If LSU doesn't look at the Arkansas game as a big game, then that sounds like a problem for LSU. In the SEC you can't really afford to discount ANY team.
For Arkansas, the LSU game is no bigger than any other SEC game. It is a big game, but so is Ole Miss, aTm, and the others.
Like I said earlier, Arkansas' important games are: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, etc.

I live here in Arkansas with many Hog friends and able to watch local sports programming. I can tell you that LSU, for some reason, is at the top of their rival list
Yeah, and you're looking through LSU "colored" glasses that skews your perspective majorly. You speak for LSU fans, but not the majority of Razorback fans...who are the topic of this post.
Bama is a "universal" rival for Auburn. LSU IS NOT a "universal" rival for Arkansas. Rivals are not based on a few of your Hog friends who are looking for bragging rights.
I don't know what the fascination is for some LSU fans to rant and rave that "LSU is Arkansas' #1 rival (the make or break game of the year), but we sure don't consider Arkansas as our rival." This comes off as an pathetic attempt to feel better about yourselves. LSU is a good program, be proud of that.
A 2008 quote from our retired AD:
"When we left the Southwest Conference and I'd see fans and they would talk about a game back when I coached or (Ken) Hatfield or Lou Holtz coached, the only game they ever talked about was a Texas game," Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles said. I have not had a single soul say, 'Do you remember the SMU game of '55 or '66?' They don't even talk about it."For Arkansas fans, Texas has been the No. 1 rival for 70 years."
Tennessee had a chance to become the biggest game for us after the 1998 & 1999 games, because while it may not be the same hue of Orange, they are UT, so it's close enough.
Arkansas Rival: Texas Longhorns
Very Important Games (in no certain order):
Alabama Crimson Tide
LSU Tigers
Auburn Tigers
Ole Miss Rebels
Miss St Bulldogs
*any other SEC game.

The impression I get from Hog fans is that they consider LSU to be their biggest rival in football.
Obviously, there may be some Hog fans that have a personal relationship with an LSU fan, and because of that have a stronger desire for the Hogs to win. Nothing like bragging rights between co-workers, friends, and the like.
But, from a larger perspective...the only rival of the Razorbacks, and the entire state of Arkansas, is the Texas Longhorns! LSU is just another game. Bama is just another game (though I'm getting tired of losing). Hell, we'll cheer for you guys when you're playing teams outside the SEC.
In 2021, when the Texas Longhorns return to Fayetteville, then you will see who we consider our rival. And yes...we're already counting down! That WILL be our "Super Bowl".
N. Korea vs. Texas: I'm cheering for the commie little bastards.

LSU is always their a Super Bowl.
Above is an example that LSU has some delusional fans too.
Arkansas fans are no different than LSU fans in that we never want to lose to ANY team. I look forward to the Hogs beating LSU, Bama, Vanderbilt, etc. I'm not happy when we lose to Auburn, Miss St, Georgia, etc. LSU seems to always have excellent teams, but you're just another "excellent" team that is on our SEC schedule.
The Arkansas Razorbacks have only ONE rival, and LSU certainly isn't it! The "Boot" was a poor attempt to create something out of nothing. Now I hear some marketing firm has been charged with creating a rivalry between AR and Mizzu. That is not how a rivalry is born. I could not care less about the Tigers to the north or south of us.
Yeah, we were excited to win the boot this past Saturday, but I'm sure you can figure out the real reason those 18-22 year-olds sprinted over to capture the prize.
