With you on the whole legalizing drugs LSU777. We could tax them and regulate similar to ETOH and probably wipe out a HUGE crime element in the US. Think how much crime is driven by drug acquisition, sales, stealing, blackmailing, smuggling, etc. I do think addicts will find drugs or whatever regardless of the law. These people just piss me off because they give good practitoners a bad name and were using the system to make a nice life for themselves-- all the while leading the church marriage ministry and cub scouts, etc. it's scary as a parent. Makes you not really trust anyone. I have more sympathy for addicts than those who are getting rich illegally all the while living like hypocrits.

All scheduled prescriptions filled in Louisiana are recorded in a Prescription monitoring system. If anyone prescribers here are interested, go to the LA board of pharmacy website and look for PMP. Eligible prescribers have to register and take a course to get access. I am an NP and we can prescribed schedules 2-5 with a DEA. (2's with permission from state board if your practice merits a need for those prescriptions, such as for ADHD, etc. ) Scedule 1's are only prescribed for research not routine patient care. And anyone prescribing them has to have DEA special permission. We are restricted from prescribing for family and for weight loss or chronic pain (ironically with the exception of those with special permission to prescribe in a pain management type clinic. This has nothing to do with PAs or NPs or MDs prescribing authority if it is used appropriately and within scope of practice and the law. It has everything to do with greed or whatever else drives people break the law to get rich. Sadly it appears these folks looked like normal folks and they have kids too.. Which is the saddest part of all. Bet they'd never want their own kids to be on the receiving end of the drugs they were selling. Wow.
