re: Experiences with LSU Lab School

Went there and graduated in the 80's. In 1983 or 1984 the tuition went way up and then went up steadily to it's current level. So you have a much different type of kid (and parents) than when I was a student and tuition was less than a thousand. My sister went there.

I played sports- they were Class A back then and yes one needed to excel in the athletic arena as well as academics to be amditted or a person needed political help. But not nearly as bad as today.

Part of me is happy I attended there and around 75-80% of my graduating class went to LSU. Part of me wishes I went somewhere else (to Baton Rouge High had they participated in major team sports). There exists a bubble that insulates the kids. I don't think its a good thing most of the time.

Basketball: LSU 148 v. Loyola Marymount 141
Football: LSU 20 v. Alabama 10 (Bear's last year)
Baseball: USC game in regional at home 8-7 (maybe) not sure about score but it was tense and both teams were playing at a high level.
Well considering he has mental issues; he doesn't have an interest right now.

However; he likes the 14Million he got and invested it well.....

5th or 6th best player on that stacked U-High team? U-High lost 4 games in 2 years. Temple was injured and out for 3 of them.....and the 4th he was playing with a bad ankle...
He actually worked for UHigh. I think he did special teams because I would see him at games gathering the kickoff and punt peams when it was time for them. Also my nephew said he did the summer weight program for the athletes until he got a GA at LSU. Supposedly he was normal back then and not the showman he is now.

Also, my nephew who player varsity basketball for Ari Fisher the year before they had that 3 or 4 year run with Big Baby Garrett et. al said he kept the clock at Boys' basketball games. For extra money I suppose..the word was that Fisher got him the gig at UHigh.

This is all from my nephew who went to UHigh from 1997-2000 so it might be bad information.

Below Par is Lou Tepper.....
They aren't exactly a bastion of free thought....Need intellect to recall assignments and make adjustments.
I recall FB from 1976 when I went to my first game at age 5 to see a undermanned LSU team tie Nebraska 6-6.

In terms of quitting I remember a few instances.

Dinardo years: once against Arkansas when Craig Nall started. once against Kentucky when they won 31-5. once against Houston who won 20-7 and he was fired the next day.

Hallman- many times; one of the most blatant is one time against Ole Miss on the road and they won 32-0. Hallman's second game of career against Texas AM 45-7 loss. Florida 58-3. No pride that game; the low point of LSU football maybe ever.

Archer: Maybe Miami of Florida 44-3 but for the most part they played hard; just poor

Bill A. : he would not allow that. we had a strong NFL influence and things were done like the pros do it. Quitting was not accepted.

Stovall: Tulane in 81 48-7...not sure they quit in any other games. Stovall was a fine gentleman even though he had poor coordinators for 2 of 4 seasons.

McClendon: Don't really recall a time they quit. In 74-75 they didnt have good talent and other teams like Texas AM and even Miss State and Kentucky were good.

Just my analysis from my memory
I have always thought Miles was at his best when people give up on the team. It was the same after Florida beat us last year. Couldnt run- huge problem. Then the next week they run all over South Carolina. They have 3 weeks to prepare for Alabama. I am sure they will give a supreme effort. Not sure if that effort can translate to a win but they will be all in because they have another week off before AM. I guess this is the SEC way of helping LSU since they made us play GA away this season and FLA every year.
It is a shame. I watch those videos often...maybe you could find more vintage stuff from the 70's and early 80's. That would be cool..I hope you reconsider.
