Before you write off Aspen …. The Aspen/Snowmass “ski resort” has a smaller mountain called buttermilk, which is nothing but beginner slopes, it is the absolute perfect spot to learn skiing as an adult or a kid.
That area has endless amounts of activities outside of skiing like dog sleds, snowmobiling, snow tubing, sledding, and all sorts of restaurants, shopping, etc..
obviously, Aspen is going to be the higher end of things for hotels and restaurants, snowmass is much more affordable and it’s only a 10 minute drive.
