wife and i traveled to ventura 4/19- 4/24. Friday was our anniversary and so we kind of made it a short 2nd honeymoon trip.
the purpose of the trip was a 5 day music festival at the ventura fairgrounds. if you are an enthusiast of a certain legacy jam band, it was about the best time you can have. no hassle, no cops, wide open, on the beach, great tunes, great time.
we flew in to LAX and rented a jeep, its 1.5 to 2hrs on the scenic route to ventura. we stopped in malibu and ate at neptune's net, very good and very cool place.
on to ventura...we stayed in an airbnb cottage in pierpoint. this is a cool area, narrow streets that all dead end at the beach. you could see the dunes from the window. five minutes down the beach road from the fairgrounds and ventura downtown. laid back and perfectly california. ventura and the surrounding area is like spending your days in a rockford files episode, in the best way. nothing is over developed and the beach is always in open, accessible and in view. a real 70's vibe which i love.
only had time for one nice meal in town, we ate at rumfish y vino sunday night, outstanding with beautiful outdoor dining.
friday and saturday we spent the day in ojai, highly recommend. its 20 minutes up the road into the hills from ventura. ten degrees warmer at least (it was chilly mornings & evenings near the beach). extremely cool shopping/dining areas, ojai roti was out favorite restaurant. we also went to the ojai olive oil farm for an oil tasting (wonderful) and a walk thru the ancient olive tree groves.
there's a bunch we didnt get to see/do, we will hit this area again next april. perfect time to be in california...everything is blooming and its not crazy hot yet.
generally, the area is so appealing to me. the weather, the waves, the vibe, the scene, the people, the buildings, the plants & trees, the hills...everything. everyone (even the degenerates) are civilized at least, and they are happy as frick to be living there. i would be too.
highly recommend visiting the area if its your thing
