Last week the Mrs. and I headed off to Vegas for a short getaway. Here is a review of our trip, sorry for the limited amount of pictures.

Thursday
We took the 1st flight out of DFW and arrived in Vegas around 8am. Which in hindsight was not the best idea as we wore out by the time 11.00pm rolled around that night.

We stayed at the Bellagio and were able to do early check-in. I would recommended this if you are going on a Friday or Saturday, as the lines to check in were really long at about 12pm. They also have a mobile check-in, which is supposed to speed up that process.

We were on the 5th floor facing the strip.

Not the greatest view but not the worst. You can tell this is one of the older hotels and is in need of some upgrades. But overall, it was centrally located to everything we wanted to do.

After settling in we hit the buffet. If you are going to go there, I would recommend hitting it about 11:30. They will just be bringing out the lunch options, while still having some breakfast options as well. Overall, it was a solid buffet.

We spent most of the day gambling and walking around the other casinos. We walked over to Caesar Palace for the Mrs. to shop and check out the sports book. That place was massive. We went to the Forum Shops, and it seemed just like a never like a never ending row of stores.

We also went across the street to the LINQ. I am not sure what casino that use to be, but it wasn't much to write home about as far as appearance. But they did have cheap tables games so we stayed there for a while.

Just as side note there is a CVS between the LINQ and Bally's. If you forget anything, go here to grab it instead of paying for it in your casino.

That night we met up with some family that lives there and they took us to Tacos and Beer. I would highly recommended this place if you want something of the strip that is casual. The food was great, I would say some of the better tacos I have had in a while. They also have a great selection of local beers to try out.

Friday
Don’t go to the Starbuck in the Casino, it will take forever. Also, there are much better options there to get breakfast. I made that mistake on Friday morning, and found the cafes to be a better place to go the following morning. This was our pool day. We got a cabana, which made sitting out there much more enjoyable. There were no big pool parties here, which is what we wanted. I will say the pool itself was absolutely the coldest pool I have ever been to in my life. I don’t know why it was so cold but it was freezing. As the day went on and it got hotter it did get a little better. The food at the pool was the standard pool food, and didn’t really stand out.

For dinner Friday night we went to Fix in the Bellagio. It was a mix of steaks and seafood. It was on the higher end side but it was good. I would recommended the Fix Fashion, the Smoked Old Fashion, the lobster taco, the pork belly, and the scallops. After dinner we went over to Planet Hollywood to see Pitbull. We had really great seats through our Amex, with our own waitress. I think this was one of the last night he was in Vegas. He really did put on a good show. He played all his hits, and few covers. It was a truly eclectic crowd. There were young several parents there with young kids, and a bunch of older (60+) rocking out.

After the concert we went over to Paris, to meet with our family at the dueling piano bar. It was cool little bar. There were a bunch of Canadians in town for a wedding, and the piano players enjoyed messing with them about the upcoming Knights game. We stayed there till about closing time. We then went to a noodle house that was in Paris. I am not sure how a noodle house fits in the Paris theme, but it was late, were hungry and it was open. It was ok, not something that I would go out of my way to go back to in a return trip.

Saturday
Woke up went to one of the cafés for coffee and a little bite before heading out. We only had a limited time to spend so we went over to Bally’s to see the Bodies exhibit. If you haven’t seen it, I would recommended seeing it if it ever comes to your city. The one at Bally’s is much smaller than the one I saw in Dallas. But it was just a good as I remembered. If you are into anatomy or like seeing how the human body works check this exhibit out.

After leaving Bally’s we headed over to the Cosmo to do some last minute gambling. You can tell this is one of the newer casinos, and it had a much younger vibe. I think when we go back we will stay there. Although the tables were not as friendly here to me as they were at other Casinos.

All in all, it was a great trip.

TLDR:
Pros: Cosmo Casino, Pitbull, Cabana at Bellagio relaxing, Fix in the Bellagio, Tacos and Beer great off the strip place, Bodies Exhibit
Cons: Starbuck at Bellagio, LINQ, Bellagio needs some upgrades, and leaving at the arse crack of dawn sucks even more when dealing with a time change.

Not too bad overall. I was up about $600, until I went to the Cosmo. I went to -$150, but I was able to battle back and get to $250.

When did you fit the cocaine binge in all that?

The Las Vegas Blvd is overrated. The old strip is where it is at. Give me some street vendor food and brown bag beer all day

Whenever you go to Vegas use the $20 tip trick when checking in to get a better room. Next, you should’ve tried Lago since you were at the Bellagio. Finally, you didn’t check out Wynn or Encore?
