Things to do and see in Louisville, KY

I am going to be heading up there with the Mrs. and some friends this summer. We are thinking of heading up in June or July, is one month better than the other? We are for sure going to the Maker's Mark Distillery. Outside of that what are some good places to stay, see, and where should we eat.

I’d stay in the Omni. Nice new hotel with nice bars and restaurant on site. I’d choose June over July. Catch a Bats game (AAA Reds club). Woodford Reserve is another distillery with a great tour.

Second the Bats!
Woodford is very nice but very crowded. You could also do Jim Beam. Very nice grounds, there.
Bardstown is another nice little town not far away.

I was there for the whole summer last year. rent a car and do the bourbon trail. Central Kentucky is very beautiful and hilly. 4th street live is OK. nothing special but bardstown road is better imo. a bunch of dive bars with good local live music. also check out the horse track. I thought it was a good mid size city it made being at fort knox tolerable

Might not be your taste in music but there is a big music festival Forecastle, similar to Bonnaroo, Hangout, etc, July 12th-July 14th on the waterfront park.

I've been to Louisville a couple times for the Derby. Never really treated either weekend as a time to take in sights, so not sure if it's your speed, but the Highlands neighborhood, along Bardstown, has good nightlife. Plenty of bars. Really enjoyed Holy Grale for beers.
