Got back from Mexico City yesterday. (Thanks REG861 and others for input in other thread). Was a quick trip, only had Thursday, Friday and Saturday as full days. Here are a few pictures (not the best quality as these were taken with an old cell phone, I will try and upload better ones here and there if I get time)
We stayed two nights in WTC area and two in La Condesa. Nothing fancy on hotel ends, just Marriotts as I used travel points.
For Thursday I originally had a tour booked online for Xochimilco , but after talking to the hotel concierge he arraigned for a driver to take us for $60 USD for the entire day. This is highly recommended. He took us in his car, got us right on the Floating Gardens. After he took us to a few other sights in the area (Coyoacán, Cuicuilco The Circular Pyramid site, etc..)
I enjoyed the floating gardens. My wife and I had a boat to ourselves and got food and drinks on board.
Friday we did our own thing and walked around the city. We got a pass for the TuriBus which is the hop on and hop off type deal. It was $7 USD for an all day pass. We did the Anthropology Museum, Zocalo, they also had tons of markets all over the city we stopped and enjoyed.
We also saw tons of beautiful churches. I don't have a religious bone in my body, but it was amazing to see these. Especially during Easter week.
Mammoth at Museum
Few churches
Angel of Independence
Zocalo
Friday evening we went to Lucha Libra at Arena Mexico. After we finished walking the city we took an Uber over to the arena about 5pm and bought some tickets off a scalper. Show as amazing. They love their Lucha Libra and the energy in the arena was awesome. We were about 7 rows from ring (he charged us $12 USD)
Outside arena
Little person match
This guy was American and played up the Pro Trump character. Was hilarious.
Saturday we hired the same driver to take us to Teotihuacan to see the pyramids. He also gave us a tour, we spent a good 5 hours seeing them. Was well worth it. After he took us to Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Pyramids
We mostly ate food from street vendors or small shops off the beaten path. All was good. Here is a pic of a cricket quesadilla and cow tongue taco I had.
Overall the city was amazing and you can feel the energy in the city. I wish I had more time to see everything. The food was great and the people were extremely friendly and treated us well. I honestly never felt unsafe at any time.
It was a good time to visit as a lot of the residents were on vacation due to Easter so the traffic wasn't as bad (it was still awful but from talking to drivers it was a good week). Also nobody really speaks English, so Spanish is helpful. I will defiantly be going back and recommend visiting to anyone.
