Has anyone been here? How did you like it. Also what are some good places to visit with 4&5 ye old kids there in alexandria, charlottesville, national parks, eetc. Also what is good to do in Washington DC for a few hours before we drive down. Thanks

Luray Caverns. Skyline Drive can be taken to Charlottesville to visit Monticello. There's also a bunch of Civil War museums in the area.

There also seems to be a civil war plaque at least once every few miles alongside the roadways. As you're starting in DC you can also visit the Manassas Battlefield on the way west and see where it all started.
