Friend and I are going to HI via SF.

When we get back, were're planning on driving the coast road from SF to LA.

We have maybe 36 hours and friend wants to go to Stars Walk, Grauman's Theater, Hollywood area.

Any LA locals/frequent travelers on here want to recommend what area to book a hotel? We don't want to spend $1,500/night at the hotel where Whitney Houston died.

I haven't been to CA since the mid 80s and all my California cousins have moved away from the L.A. area so there's really no one to ask.

Thanks in advance for the legitimate responses.

You are going to be disappointed. LA is very different with
all of the homeless folks in the areas you mention. Late last year we were there near the star walk etc. We didn't even get out of the car...
We did the PCH south of SanFran to LA. Wonderful trip, go to the Hearst Castle in San Simeon. Outstanding. Fruit and veg stands along the route. Carmel is very nice.

Roosevelt Hotel or Dream Hotel would be the best for his area at reasonable price.

Roosevelt is my favorite place

W Hotel also but more expensive

Standard Hotel. Mondrian Hotel. Grafton are all decent but are more up Sunset Strip

We have done the Reagan Library and it is a must. Done most of the Presidential Libraries and this was the best. Plan on 4 to 5 hours at a minimum.
