We're going to have two days at the end of next week. Looking for some suggestions. The boat lake tour is all booked and we're travelling with children ranging from 8-12 years old.

I know Jasper got hit with a major wildfire so check what is accessible for planning anything. Beyond that:

You can still go to Maligne Lake and walk around even if you don't have a spot on the boat. On the way back visit Maligne Canyon.

For good hikes, the Valley of the Five Lakes is a nice, easy trail. The Mount Robson/Berg Lake area is really pretty but the hike is a little more strenuous.

Athabasca Falls is also nearby. You can drive up to Mt. Edith Cavell and see a (small) glacier.

Appreciate the reply, the Maligne Canyon is closed, thats what we wanted to do. So far, we’ve booked tix on the Skytram and plan to hike up to the top of Whistler and food tour in Jasper. Thinking about the Dark Sky experience, was wondering if anyone could comment on that. Is it worth it? It starts at 11:30pm-Thx

We just returned from Jasper NP. It's much more relaxed than Banff, more hikers than Banff shoppers. We did the 5 mile white water rafting trip. It was okay if youve not done white water before. Fairly calm. The area from the Athabasca Falls to Jasper is burnt - bad. Part of the town was destroyed. Fema trailers all over. Go to the Fairmont hotel and hike around their lake and the property. We drove to Maligne Lake and hiked it. Saw a few big horn sheep on the way. Have dinner at Aalto- best dinner all trip. We did a happy hour food tour of downtown. Started at Brewery, went to Earls- they have rooftoop outdoor dining. Great happy hour and food. We wanted to do the dark sky tour, but dang btwn the time zone difference and the start, we werent late nighters.

What's the parking situation for these two areas?

We had no issues parking anywhere in Jasper. There is parking at Fairmont right by Golf shop and Maligne Lake has a large lot and an overflow.

Mount Edith Cavell hike was easy with great views. You also had live action with the ice melts. Highly recommend
