Holy crap. That’s what I was looking for. I really appreciate the info. I am thinking Delta then Air Astana into country.
Stupid question: I have only checked bags on a domestic flight. How does this work with customs and another airline?
For example: Gulfport Delta to Atlanta/ Atl to Amsterdam Delta/ Ams to Atyrau Air Astana.

Air Astana Codeshare and Interline Agreements
Looks like Delta has an interline agreement with Air Astana.
What that means is when you check your bags at Gulfport they should be checked through to your final destination. You can confirm this with the checkin agent and looking at the airport codes on the tag.
Therefore, when you get to Amsterdam you'll just head to your Atyrau flight and your bags will be handled to that plane.
If this agreement wasn't in place, you'd have to deplane and head to baggage claim, collect your bags, then go and check them in to your next flight. As you would expect, that can be a real shite show if you forget to get a Visa or can't enter the country, time constraints etc., but doesn't seem to be an issue for you.
The above almost happened to me when a bag got gate checked in South Africa but put on the belt in Tanzania. Had to send a guy to go get it, since we were transferring to Zurich.

Yep.
I was flying from Botswana to Johannesburg on a separate ticket. Then Joburg-Atlanta-Columbia. The gate agent in Botswana asked for my final destination and got the back checked the whole way through. Saved me a ton of hassle in JNB.
