Heading to NyC on Sunday.. It'll be my 4th time but first without my parents . Staying in Brooklyn.. Got my ticket to the 9/11 museum booked... Was on top of the towers 2 weeks before 9/11.. The 3 times going as a kid/ teenager were some of the best tripes we ever went on.. Have a great trip !

I went to the statue yesterday. Crown tickets are booked up for a few months. We got pedastal tickets which were pretty good. You cant get them once you are on the island so plan ahead of you want them. I think the cost was $15.
Yes, the Staten Island ferry is an alternative. However spend the money to go to the island. The SI boats are larger, people crowding the rails to get a far off picture, and generally gross. The tour boats and the island in general are very clean considering the amount of people it handles.
I would go to a park in Battery Park City before getting on the SI ferry.

You can see it from the free Staten Island ferry
That sounds like the way to go. Plus the ferry is free. That is always nice.

I don't think we are wanting to go up the statue. But just being on the island next to it would be cool and my son would love that.

The statue cruise is pretty cheap and you get Liberty Island and Ellis Island.
Looking into the CityPass or C3 Pass.
The 3 main things we want to see for sure are the 9/11 Memorial, Statue of Liberty, and Empire State Building. Can get those three for under $200.

The pedastal is certainly not a must-do. If you wanted to jump on the boat, get some nice pictures of the statue and the city skyline, and head back skipping Ellis Island to save time (the boat will stop there to dropoff/pickup), I imagine it won't take much longer than the back-and-forth SI trip.

Did Empire State in "99 and all I remember was it was at night and waiting in line for the elevator and it was the hottest damn hallway waiting for it . Have zero desire to do that again

I did it when there was not a single person in line. My group walked by after watching the LSU game at legends and it was empty so we decided to go. It was great. However it was a solid 10 minute walk through the line area so I agree it would suck to have to wait through that. The views can be had at other places for cheaper, but getting to go outside at night in the cold and wind is a cool experience.
