Agree that Athens can be done in a day. We arrived early in the morning, hired a driver, and were done with the bucket list items before dinner. That included seeing the guards at the palace, which some folks miss.

For the islands, Santorini is a must see, it’s one of the most beautiful places on Earth. As mentioned by someone else, Naxos is a bit under the radar but terrific. Great food, laid back (seemed to be more European visitors), and reasonably priced. Corfu is nice, but it’s on the opposite side of Greece, so adds a bit of travel time to your itinerary.

Rhodes is best by far and I really like Syros, Kerkyra and Crete.

For an excellent island overview visit the link and from there you can also get Athens and mainland guides.

i would spend 3 days in athens 3 in santorini and 5 in paros depending on how many islands and places you want to go, but Cyclades islands are my favorite santorini, Paros and Naxos ( could stop by Mykonos)

also if you like hiking head back early to athens and take a train to meteora in the mountains about a 4-5 hour train ride to monasteries in the moutians of central greece ,s imply amazing

Paros, the last stop in the Greek Cyclades, is an island in the central Aegean Sea. The island is a much more tranquil and laid back pace of life with unique villages connected by ancient Byzantine pathways. Paros is historically known for its famous white marble quarries but today is a famous tourist destination.

Paros offers four distinct villages and towns that each offer their own unique twist. The capital which is Parikía has beautiful whitewashed architecture and impressive classical mansions. It has an ancient 13th century Venetian castle and has a 6th century church called Panayia Ekatontapyliani. Legend holds it is the Church of 100 doors and only 99 can be found with the final being a secret one.

Náoussa is a colorful village where the ruins of a Venetian castle and fortress stand at the entrance to the harbor. Léfkes is located at the highest point of the Páros mountains tucked away from pirate attacks and enjoys impressive views of the lush green island landscape. It has very well preserved classic Greek architecture. The last village and maybe most surprising and photogenic was Márpissa, founded in the 15th century and is a traditional village with a distinctive medieval character.

Páros has a hint of everything you expect from an island in the Greek Cyclades. It has the whitewashed villages, blue-domed churches, impeccable blonde-sand beaches, fishing harbours overlooked by Greek taverns , plus entertaining discotecas and cafés.

athens is accomplished history, Santorini is the WOW island and touristy, Paros is the cheaper more laid back island but offers great beaches and historical towns , and meterora is monasteries in the mountains perfect for hiking

If you take the ferry for a long trip, book a cabin.

Went a few years ago.

Athens for a day. That was enough. Get some good walking shoes and you can see everything.

Santorini for five, and really enjoyed it.

However, Crete was my favorite. So diverse, and if you rent a car, you can do a lot. We stayed in Heraklion, but would stay in Chania if we went back.

We also went to northern Greece, which I loved too. Stayed in Iaonnina, and checked out Meteora, which is a series of monasteries built on sheer pillars of rock. Some took hundreds of years to build. Also hit up Zagoria which was unreal, and relatively unknown by Americans. The scenery is spectacular.

If you stay on Corfu you can ferry over to that area easily.

Vigos Gorge in Zagoria.
