Anyone ever been to Yerevan, Armenia? Any insights, places, must-see things?

I haven't been, but I'm told that the Vernissage market is worth a visit. Many things are sold there, heavy on arts and crafts. One caution... there is an attractive opal-like blue stone widely-sold as a natural semi-precious gem in Armenia. It is pretty, but it is glass no matter what the merchant says...pay accordingly.
