Cabin near river & town recommendation

Wife wants to go on a quick trip(weekend) sometime before the end of the year so we can utilize our companion pass one last time.
Criteria:
-Cabin
-Near river or other body of water
-Close enough to a "quaint" or "cute" town (her words)
-We're thinking we'd prefer east coast-ish
My first thoughts were Tennessee area... maybe Charleston?
