I have a 4 day weekend for 4th of July and wanted to spend a couple days in one of the BVI's. I'm not sure which one to go to.

I'll be taking a Ferry from STT.

Main interests are diving, beaches and bars. Easy access to taxis is probably a plus.

Jost van Dyke. Period. You'll have to ferry to Tortola unless you're doing it on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday when there's a ferry to get there through St. John.

Stay at The Perfect Pineapple, Sandcastle or White Bay Villas. You'll want a car if you stay at White Bay Villas. The other two are right on White Bay which just happens to be where nearly all of the beach bars are located.

Jost van Dyke diving is a short taxi ride away in Great Harbor as is Corsairs and Foxy's for dining. If you eat at Corsairs tell Vinny that Bill with a doppleganger says hello.

Your only other option is Tortola ATM. Peter is still closed as is pretty much all of Virgin Gorda. Anegada is simply too far to go for a couple of days. Necker is $$$$$$$$ and Scrub only has a resort which I personally would not do. Jost is clearly the best option.

The is for all the info, seems like you know the area well.

I'm in St. Croix at the moment. I was looking to jump on a cheap flight somewhere, and it looks like the only cheap flights are to STT or SJ, but I don't want to go to either of those.

I figured a Ferry to BVI would be my best bet. If there's an entirely different route you would suggest, I'm all ears.

It'll probably just be me, maybe a buddy.

What makes you say JVD over Tortola?

Looks like sandcastle is still closed after the hurricane. Pineapple looked decent. I'd rather not rent a car, so white bay villas is at the bottom of the list.

Is Tortola no good for what I'm looking for?

Tortola is a big island. Long cab rides to get places.

I go down at least once a year. I just spent 8 days on St. John and 4 days on Jost. We've stayed on Jost the past three years. We've also sailed the BVI so I'm familiar with all of the primary islands.

White Bay on Jost is as good as or better than any beach on Tortola and it has several beach bars on it while a place like Cane Garden Bay on Tortola (while still one of my favorite beaches) only has one or two at most and White Bay is much more happening. There's a party on White Bay every day.

You definitely want to take a ferry. Just look at the ferry schedules to see what days you can get to Jost via St. John. Saves quite a bit of traveling for you. You can also contact Foxy's and do a water taxi but it will be either $400 or $600 one way depending on where you're coming from. However, it saves a ton of time and gets you where you want to be quickly.

White Bay villas doesn't require a car. There's a path that leads down to the beach. It's just not something I'd want to climb after partying on White Bay. It can get a little crazy down there.

Arrive July 4
Depart July 7

And when looking at ferry rides, how do I know the arrival time? I have only seen departures.

The ferry from Red Hook via St. John is mayber 45 minutes total.

You'll have to go via Tortola to get to Jost on Thursday. Charlotte Amalie to Roadtown. Taxi to West End. West End to Jost.

Going back you just buy the ticket from Jost to Red Hook and then taxi to the airport.

BVI Ferry Schedule

Irma fricked up the ferries badly. They're still down a lot of boats right now so we have to be patient.
