About this time last year, I booked a 10 year anniversary trip for my wife and I to Exuma Sandals Emerald Bay for May of last year. Obviously, it was booked before we knew what covid was and all that would come with it. Of course the May trip didn’t happen and now we’re on our fourth reschedule as the resort doesn’t open until two days after we were supposed to arrive. Now, with the required covid testing before departure back to the states and Biden supposedly requiring 14 day quarantine upon arrival back in the states, that brings up a whole new list of concerns. The main one being forced to quarantine in a foreign country and possibly be separated from my wife. I don’t like the idea of being at someone else’s mercy like that on foreign soil. Sandals will only cover expenses up to 10 days or a Maximum of $2800. So it could cost me more money. It could burn me job wise too. Sandals refuses to offer more than a voucher good for a year, and once a year is up, I lose the cost of the trip.

I purchased the travel insurance through TripMate and qualify for the cancel for any reason deal, but I’m being told by them that once I rescheduled the first time, my cash payment went off the books and now only qualify for a trip voucher good for up to a year. Same shite that Sandals is offering.

I feel like they’re holding my money hostage. There are now risks associated with the trip that I’m not willing to take. It seems like my only options are to take the trip with the risks involved, postpone until later and likely end up back in the same situation, possibly with less “complimentary” help from Sandals, or eat the money.

Surely I can’t be the only person in a similar situation with similar concerns. I’d appreciate any advice.

If you cancel now, you would be eligible to rebook within a year from now or a year from when the trip was scheduled to take place?

Eff that. I'd raise hell with em. Airlines, hotels, cruises, etc are all giving refunds for covid related cancellations.. they shouldn't be able to have you by the balls like that.

We are in a similar situation, but Sandals told me that we have until 2023 to use our credit. The issue is that we booked our airline tickets through sandals also, and we have to use those by December 2021 or we lose that money. So basically we have to go before the end of the year. They haven’t been very sympathetic to us, despite the significant and unforeseeable new restrictions that were imposed just weeks before our trip.

I’ve raised hell every way I know how. Through several phone calls I’ve been denied at every turn. I’ve been very disappointed with Sandals customer service. Knowing what I know now, the wording in their “book with confidence” section is very misleading on the website. Sad for such a large successful business.

Sounds like a lawyer's class-action suit, wet dream.
