Good post by BRich with details and pictures. It's been a few years but dining car, think Denny's quality. I don't mean that as an insult, taken a few trips and food was fine, better quality that most fast food I would eat cheap on road trips.

Roommettes are fine for 2 siblings, but to make it efficient both need to have the beds down at the same time. Also if you get a cabin you have access to the view car and the rest of the train, so you don't have to stay in your room the entire trip.

That said, unless you need privacy for work/other reasons, a cabin really isn't needed for an 6-8 hour day trip.
