You sure you got the right resort?
Went 2 weeks ago- it was awesome. Beautiful, picture perfect setting. They have daybed type things in the boardwalk in front of the each, so not kn the sand. But it’s like 20 steps to the water. There are also lingers and coving tree umbrella things a little further down.
2 areas kn either side of resort for excellence club, that is never busy and chairs literally everywhere. Maybe they didn’t pay the extra $300-400 for excellence club.
If you go , definitely do the EC. Also gives you access ton2 higher end restaurants, one open for breakfast and dinner each night. They are fantastic! Lobster, lamb, filets, seafood…. I ordered 2 entrees every night. Portions are a little small.
The other restaurants were good as well, minus the grill (steakhouse) . Just average at best.
Service wasn’t the fastest, but not a huge problem. They do run on island time.
Have some friends who’ve been to probably 5 AI’s, and things their favorite ( we didn’t find out until after we booked our trip).. they are going back in November.
Everyone I’ve talked to loved it. Not sure what was up with your peeps.
It is a little more laid back, not real big party scene, so know that.

I went to Excellence Oyster Bay last month, really enjoyed it. Definitely a laid back atmosphere and staff is on island time.
Paying for excellence club is worth it, the excellence club restaurants were phenomenal.

Agree 100%
And don’t pay more than $10 per joint if you smoke. Tio from the captain of caramaran cruise we took… hung out at Margaritaville instead of doing the water slides, etc.
