A review of Louisville

This this will be a picture lite review, as I suck at taking pictures.
Flew out of DFW direct to SDF, airline issues aside it was a quick and easy airport to get in/out of.
Our first stop was Churchill Downs. This place was massive and absolutely beautiful. The only other track I have been to was Lonestar Park, and obviously this did not compare to CD.
We then headed to the hotel. We stayed at the Omni downtown. A great hotel and a convenient location to just about all the major attractions. After checking in we walked to Against the Grain brewery and smokehouse for lunch. It it connected to Louisville Slugger field. They had a lot of barrel aged beer which was a plus. The food was good.
If you don't have a scooter app, (lime/bird) I would recommended getting one. They we all over the city and made getting around town so much easier.
After lunch we went to Hell or High Water for another drink. This place is a must if you like bourbon and/or whiskey. I ordered a sazerac, and it was hands down the best one I have had outside of New Orleans. They also have a great selection of cocktails for those that want to try bourbon or whiskey but not a big fan of the taste. The bar tender also gave us a few recommendations
Dinner that night was at Butchertown Grocery. This is also a must go, but make sure to make reservations ahead of time. This was probably my favorite meal during our time here. They make there own pasta and it is delicious.
Saturday
Breakfast was at Biscuit Belly. There were great options, but I went with a standard sausage and egg biscuit.
Then we headed out to Maker's Mark for our tour. It is out in the middle of no where. If you go, make sure you have a screen shot of the directions, because you will lose service. That being said, the drive is easy and very scenic. The grounds at Maker's were absolutely awesome. The tour was good, and the guide knew his stuff. It was hot, but that's what we get for going in July.
This was in the rack room where they make Maker's 46.
They had this glass all over. It was done by a local artist that had just passed away, and they were about to have showing of a lot of his art. While there we did dip several bottles.
After MM we went to Jim Beam, mainly to see if we could see the rack house that caught on fire (we didn't), and it was on the way back to the city. By the time we got there the tours were sold out, but were able to get to the bar for a few drinks. Again, the area was beautiful.
We head back and stopped for a snack at Louisville Cream. On a hot day, it was good choice.
Dinner that night was at Hammerhead, it is a local hole in the wall place the bartender at HHW recommended. It definitely fit the description of a hole in the wall, but it was good.
After dinner we crossed the river to Indiana, one because none of us had ever been there, and two we never thought we would have another reason to go to Indiana. We went to Portage House for a few drinks. This was run by a chef that had competed on Chopped. We didn't get anything to eat but it did look good. This was right on the river.
Sunday
We went to breakfast at Wild Eggs, and it was very similar to Another Broken Egg. Not great, but serviceable for breakfast.
After we checked out we had time to kill so we went to the Louisville Slugger Museum.
After there, we went across the street to Michter's Distillery. I had never heard of them, but did have one of their bourbon's at dinner on Friday.
Overall it was a great trip. I am sure there were somethings we missed on this trip, but in the limited time we had it was great. I don't think anyone in our group had a bad meal or drink during out time here. Louisville was never on a must see list for me, but after spending time here I would not hesitate to go back.

you never heard of Michters? lol
looks like a great trip and thanks for taking the time to post photos.
last year my wife and I took a last minute trip to Bourbon country as well (stayed in Lexington). it's impossible to see some of the bigger distilleries with a last minute trip though (like you mentioned with Beam). We got lucky and managed to get a tour at Buffalo Trace, Bartons 1792, and Heaven Hill, but struck out at Woodford Reserve (which was my number 1 choice).

Nice. I went to Louisville on a job interview and wasn't able to do a whole lot(go to distilleries etc). But I happened to be there for the St Paddy's parade which was a lot of fun. Overall a surprisingly cool city, considered taking the job there.
We did check out the Mega caverns there which was interesting side trek if you ever go back.
Eta: other side notes, Indiana is Jeffersonville which is one of the live PD locations.
Also thought that 4th Street live seemed like an interesting area/venue but no shows while I was there.

Good review!
We went this past September for a work conference and had a good time. We did Churchhill Downs and the slugger museum, plus hit up a lot of the craft breweries. The conference had taken over 4th street one night with a country band and it was a fun time bar hopping and visiting with folks I don't get to see that often. I enjoyed the city more than I thought I would and glad we got to go. I'll be ok if I never go back, but it was a fun time.
