My old neighborhood had a string of burglaries one time and I was talking to a cop that responded to one. He basically said alarm systems are useless because the criminals know the typical response time so they are in and out before the cops can even get on scene. I pretty much only have an alarm system for fire monitoring and the homeowners insurance discount. We haven’t even set our burglar alarm in probably 2 months

Agreed. That's the only reason I have mine. That being said, if someone broke in, I'd rather them be there in a very short of period of time as possible. The main reason I have mine though, is for the fire alarm.
