Wifi help

Anytime I close my laptop or put it to sleep, I lose preference or rank of my home WiFi to others in the general. It's not that big of a deal, just annoying. I have to go to the WiFi symbol and click to my home WiFi user name. Is there a way I can set it up where it automatically selects my home WiFi account upon starting, waking up, opening the computer?

Is this Windows 7/8?
If so, if you right click your SSID and select "Properties". Under the 'Connection' tab, is "Connect automatically when this network is in range." checked?
