WhatApp backup transfer when setting up new phone

Finally migrating my Pixel 5 to the Pixel 8 Pro, but I can't seem to get my chat history over to the new phone. (I can see in Google Drive that the backup exists.)
Tried to go back to the 5 and turn WhatsApp back on there, but now it just spins endlessly and won't let me do that either! Help! TIA

I'd try going into your whatsapp settings, storage, clear cache and clear data. Try again.

I can't guarantee it.
Maybe try to force close the app and clear cache. Start app again.
