VS Code customization question

Hello, awhile back I was pointed to VS Code as my new code editor. Thanks for that!
My question today is how can I bind strings of text to a keyboard shortcut.
I have been doing this with a keyboard mapping script, but I would now like to simply do it all from within VS Code.
Hypothetical example. When I press Ctrl+j I would like the text "blah blah blah thanks blah blah blah" to be typed automatically.
keybindings doesn't do this in VS Code from what I can tell. It only maps commands from what I gather.
Can it do this or should I just keep using my script.
Thanks in advance!

Keybindings should work in concert with code snippets.
