I'm looking for a free (or near-free) app to record incoming phone calls from guest callers (podcast).

Here's my layout & preferences.....

- Windows 10, 64 bit Desktop PC
- I'm using Google Voice (I'm already aware you can press #4 to record on GV).
- I have a USB mic installed.
- I want to record my voice on Track A and the caller's voice on Track B.
- I have intermediate audio editing skills
- I'd prefer not using Skype.

Hoping for recommendations. T.I.A.

Any chance you could move away from google voice and move to a 3CX PBX? 3CX offers voice recording on all calls with the pro or enterprise license. 30day free trial. Don't quote me on this, but I believe you can start/stop the recording to your liking with the enterprise license. Been a while since I've done the voice recording, but I install 3CX to all of my clients.

If it is something you're interested in doing, just let me know.

How would an app record the caller's voice without recording your own? Those two things are not separated out by google voice or any budget-minded VOIP system that I'm aware of (assuming you want the caller to be able to hear you).

The only way I can think of is if you have separate methods for the caller to talk and listen. He calls via phone but you are muted. He listens through a different chat client that you have up on a different computer that only has your voice. The other computer you have has both, which is broadcast to regular listeners.

That sounds like a PITA and a deterrent to callers. You're better off keeping it all on one track unless you're up to no good.

That why I posted - I'm looking for an app that can do this. I'm thinking the app could record output from GV (the caller)on one track and my USB mic input on another channel. I'm not a sound engineer, but it seems workable.

I was wondering why it took so long... Why do people automatically presume nefarious behavior?

I stumbled upon this today. I have Adobe Audition. Still not sure if I can separate my USB mic and the incoming caller in GV onto separate tracks. This directly addresses my issue "if" the caller can still hear my USB mic AND I can pick up the feed from GV in Adobe Audition.

ETA: Also tripped over this one today. This looks promising: Zencastr

ETA II: Looks like Zencastr is the trick. Just did a test call with a friend (yes - I have at least one) and it worked like a charm. After the recording, 2 solo tracks appear - one for Track 1 (ME) and the other for Track 2 (INCOMING CALLER). Just download and drag them into their respective tracks in Audition and it's done. Make sure you bump each track all the way to the left (beginning) to synch both tracks. Both tracks are incredibly clear, with the USB mic (me) sounding studio-quality and the incoming caller sounding very nice, although it's obvious he's calling in remotely.

ETA III: alas.... it does not accept calls from cell phones. Must use either a laptop or desktop, both of which need a mic. That's a bummer since most of my callers would prefer to use a cell phone.

Ringr might be a good alternative. Cost is reasonable and it works with cell phones. At least now I have choices.
