Virus Question?

I got an automated call from a Florida number saying that I have a virus on my computer. According to the automated message, I should avoid banking and such. Is this a real thing or a hoax? Serious answers please.

Is this a serious question? How would a robo caller know if you have a virus? Why would they care?
It's probably a scam to give them access to your PC or your information. If you let them access your PC they'll put ransomware on it.

Hoax. The way alot of them work is you answer or call back the number. A "tech support specialist" answers the call, tries to dupe you into thinking you have viruses, and tries to get you to give them remote access to your computer. Once they have control, they set a password with a program called syskey, which basically locks you out of your own computer. The scammers then demand money to provide you with the password that they just set to unlock your PC.
