TV / Media Cabinet / Armoire

Moved into a new place, so of course I’m updating my TV.
Don’t want to mount it on the wall. Would prefer to have it covered when not in use.
What are my options? TV lift (expensive!) or armoire? Will have to be big enough to fit a 50-55 inch TV.

Just went through this. You can retrofit an old armoire (basically remove the top shelving inside), buy one new, or have one custom made. There isn't a lot of selection buying new, and the few I found were expensive and low quality (what we ended up going with). Now I wish I had just had one made.
There are a lot of antiques out there that can be retrofitted, but finding the exact right color/stain and style for what you want can be a challenge if you are looking for a specific style. Also, the doors usually aren't designed to slide in to get them out of the way when watching tv, and stick out quite a bit when opened. Many can't even be retrofitted with different hinges because of the way they are designed (at least not without major modifications).
We looked for a few months and finally gave up and just bought from crate and barrel. Its poor quality and it shows. Should have just had something nice made.
