My advice is to not worry so much about using an IDE right now, but focus on learning HTML. VSCode is great, it's my daily driver. However, even though it might be slightly slower to write HTML without an IDE's autocomplete and autoformatting, you could write HTML just fine in Wordpad if needed. VSCode will make you faster because it has some nice features, but it isn't going to understand HTML fundamentals for you or write the code for you (aside from autocompleting). Since your current struggle isn't speed, it's understanding the fundamentals of HTML and CSS, I would use the time it would take you to learn to use an IDE like VSCode (there is a learning curve to take advantage of it) and put that towards a free HTML course from Free Code Camp, W3 Schools, or one of the other ones out there. If you aren't getting the instruction you need from class or it's not presented in a way that is clicking with you then supplementing with one of those free courses could do wonders for you. Some of them are even interactive IIRC so you can see how what you are typing in is changing the DOM. You should be able to knock out one of these beginner courses in a week or two depending on your available time to commit to it.

Thanks Batman, I actually have been going through the w3 modules a good bit today. I appreciate all the input.
