We've been Xfinity customers for years, and have had a solid experience with the X1 DVR, but are weighing our options on replacing it with the new Tivo Edge for Cable.

Has anyone else made this jump already?

This $250 Father's Day deal is pretty sweet, and it would likely be a wash, money-wise, when you take the savings of the $10/mo Tivo service promo rate vs the $15/mo for the 2 Comcast boxes.

Holy shite. People still use Tivo? Stream your cable and you have unlimited dvr.

The new Edge has 4X the storage capacity than the current X1 DVR, even with the cloud expansion.

4X or 400X is still less than unlimited. Does xfinity have channels that you need that aren't available on youtube tv?

TiVo is a heavy up-front investment. If I had cable 10 years ago, I would have bought lifetime service and stuck with tivo. But the monthly fee deal isn’t so much better with TiVo that I would want to switch. The FCC is loosening the requirement to force cable companies to give you a cablecard if you request it. I worry that if tivo doesn’t get an answer for streaming + DVR in the next two years or so, they may cease to exist soon.

I bought a used Bolt with lifetime service for antenna to try out. I do like it. It works fine.

With regards to streaming cable, my cable company’s streaming quality is pretty awful- when watching football, my wife comments on how bad the refresh rate is. Bad enough that I’ve gone off and now pay $8/m for Channels (only way I know of to integrate every available streaming channel available through your cable provider + antenna into one guide) just to stream the channels I’m already paying to stream somewhere else.

TiVo is definitely a good option, but there’s what I (and many on their forum) see as a fairly legitimate risk that the company won’t be around in another 5 years without some major overhaul. Prior to the FCC restriction being lifted, I was considering buying 2 or 3 all in boxes (used on eBay). Now, I don’t think I have much interest without a big shift in their offerings.

They also may still be missing Disney+ on their app side, but I’m not sure. The idea of “one box” and “one remote” that function well is great, and their search across all app function is good, but only if it has all the apps you need.

We have FireTV/Roku devices for the odd app out, like Disney+. I'm not so much worried about the app integration, since that can be fixed by negotiations and software updates.

I had the DirecTV TiVo back in 2000-2004 and it was amazing. Loved the functionality of the whole thing. We still have about 15 months on our latest X1 agreement, so it's a bit of an experiment in the hopes of making the DVR/guide potion better in the hopes that fully cutting the cord will be more viable for us come beginning of the 2022 football season.

Do you know if you can create Playlists of recorded programs?

Apparently, according to one TiVo forum, there are no abilities to make playlists.
